  1. Unfortunately I didn’t think of this until after I purchased it. I can always swap the cams.
  2. Also, any suggestions as to what I should check/do to an engine before mounting it? I'll be checking the stator, of course.

Looking at Partzilla's fiche, I have the following cams for both 1998 and 2000: Front Intake: 14110-MBG-00 Front Exhaust: 14130-MBG-00 Rear Intake: 14120-MBG-00 Rear Exhaust: 14140-MBG-00 Like Kev, I see that prices are identical and the 98 says the same weird title. However, since the part numbers are the same, I think we can be pretty confident that they are the same.

  5. Been a while since I posted, but I'm considering swapping out the engine in my VFR. I did a valve adjustment and really borked stuff up (I've never failed like this working on my bikes before). I'm concerned I REALLY messed stuff up and at the amount of money it would take to fix it, I could likely just purchase a new engine. I've been looking at engines on eBay and I found a 2000 engine in great condition with only 14k miles on it, but I'm not sure what else is needed to swap it in. I know two of the big changes for 00-01 from 98-99 are the added cat (and O2 sensor) and the closed loop mode in the EFI system. I can deal with the O2 sensor easily enough, but will my existing ECU flip out with the updated motor? Will the wiring even match up properly? I know they also added HISS, not sure if that will be relevant or not. If I'm just using the existing ignition and ECU, I'm hoping HISS won't be a factor. I searched around on the forum a bit but wasn't able to find the answer to this question.
  6. Yes, sorry for not updating! Replacing the radiator cap has fixed this issue. The bike now handles heat quite well.
  7. Yup, that's the process I intend to follow! I'm getting good at it now, haha, as I've had to do it a couple times while troubleshooting the issue.
  8. You're a life saver! There's a Pep Boys on my way home from work, I'll prick one up. I've already ordered the OEM part, but this will work in the interim and give me a backup part. OEM part doesn't arrive until after my trip this weekend.
  9. That's what I thought, thanks for the reassurance. I'm pretty good with most systems on my bikes (replaced the clutch no problem, rebuilt front forks on my Ninja 500, etc) but cooling systems are something I've not done much work with beyond replacing a radiator and a couple thermostats. This thread has helped a ton.
  10. I think that's the most logical conclusion. I've ordered a replacement cap. I'll be taking a trip before then, but seeing as how the bike stays at stable temperatures unless I get stuck I should be fine.

  13. If you could rig a way for the fan to work in one direction while stopped and then reverse while moving, all your problems would be solved!
  14. Yeah, it doesn't take long at all for it to warm up and then, so long as I'm moving, it stabilizes quite well. I'm going to look into replacing the radiator cap. Maybe it's just not sealing up correctly and allowing the system to kind of self-purge.
  15. OK, good to know, I'll be sure to keep it from getting that hot again. I'm not interested in warping my engine.
