  1. I thought that the ideal oil temp was in the 185 to 215 degree F range and that if you are lower than that you could be asking for flow and lubrication issues. Dunno if I would go to a 5 row cooler on viffers unless I had an oil temp gauge at the oil filter inlet - thats where it runs the oil to the bearings. I would want to keep an eye on things.
  2. Havent tried them but $62.99 for grips? R U nutz? Try the ProGrip 699 or 719 for under 10 dollars. (I use the 699s )Both are very good. Add in a throttle rocker for another 10 bucks and you should be good to go. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/68/4489/ITEM/Pro-Grip-699-Open-End-Sportbike-Gel-Grip.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch http://throttlerocker.com/
  3. ---- The tail of my VFR gets crazy hot to the point of making the seat warm. I currently have a stock R/R in the thing. On my MOTY install, I ended up packing the thing in the battery box with some foam cut up from a knee pad, so its kinda like insulated from the all the heat going on. Dunno if it matters, but so far so good. (Admittedly my riding is limited this year, I have a messed up rotator cuff that gonna take damn near the rest of the year to heal up and riding is painful. F**k! ) ------ MOTY is just one guy like Joshua (Tightwad) of wiremybike fame. So far Brian Harris seems like a stand up guy.
  4. I'm assuming you have the stock mirrors nicknamed around here as the "condom" mirrors. And most people like me replace with the 2000-2001 OEM mirror which are way better looking. Check #23 and # 25 from this list. http://www.ronayers.com/Fiche/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/1/Make/Honda/YearID/42/Year/2001/ModelID/7427/Model/VFR800FI/GroupID/325186/Group/UPPER_COWL Btw Ronayers is a good place to check out parts

    Stunning! :fing02:
  6. Careful on that one, with the fan diabled and a tailwind ( happened to me in vegas) you get a zero airflow condition. Is there room on the second radiator to run a fan blowing opposite the first? Then therenis always airflow over a radiator under any condition... I dont remember how much room is in there, ,its been a while since i unwrapped the plastics off it. I'm sure there is no room on the right side radiator for an extra fan, if there was there are at least 50 of us geek fooles who would have tried to fit one. - I think on the 5th gen, if you are in hot climates, going to a 3 row oil cooler from the stocker 2 row is a good idea and would help. Veefer800Canuck has done it. - I was once in Arizona on a fly n ride and we were in the high plains with a strong tailwind. It was totally bizarre running at about 120 and feeling a wind like 40 mph in the face. Very eerie.....
  7. Have to agree with Auspanol - my experience with the stock fan and VTR fan is: Stock fan - stationary - ok, pass - low speed moving - fail VTR fan - stationary - fail - low speed and up moving - strong pass Bleah, pick your poison....
  8. Thanks Kaldek - Those Hobby King connectors look like the nuts for the stator hook up! Adding a note June 2013 - negative on the HK for the stator connectors and hell yeah to DephiPackard Metri pack 630 automotive connectors
  9. ^^^^ Which is why I purchased a BMC filter. That filter covers near all the available area in the plastic mount holder. - Admittedly, the frankenfilter is a tick larger, but not by much. I had bought the K&N at first and nearly barfed when I first saw it. I sold it to somebody else.
  10. Well, I got to give him that the search engine is terrible...
  11. Hi - Just a curiousity - on the air filter, why didnt you just grab a BMC part? It has more area than the K&N. --(I'm running one.) Cool project. Good luck.
  12. I think the main "gotcha" on the Carrrozzeria wheels is that they are 6" width. A lot of us viffer nuts are conscience of handling and dont want to do anything that would affect it negatively which a 6'" wheel would. The best way to go as Safe-T has pointed out to go single nut and keep stockish handling is to look at Ducati wheels and brakes. btw - cool thread! :fing02:
  13. Great info - - anybody ever weigh 5th and 6th gen swingarms?
  14. Hi - This has been a fun thread to watch. Good luck Luigi. :fing02:
  15. Sweet job! I especially like the work on the tail with the mufflers and the running/brake lights. How 'bout a photo with the lights on and mbe brake lights applied. Very cool... :fing02:
  16. I dont have a lot of space to work, so its one bike at a time for me and funds are limited since I'm not working and doing the grad school thing. Plan A - Valkyrie -------- Pull rear wheel off (its a shaft, bleah) and get moving on the upgrade to bling up the rear brakes/brackets and wheel polish. -VFR800 '98 ----------Finish the research and decide method for a slam dunk overkill permafix on the charging system. (Oh, the chronic engineers disease.. ) ----------Rework heat shielding around rear cylinders, under seat wires and fuses, maybe around the header and shock too. Possbible fan in there to get some airflow. Mbe some shielding under the tank too. -The thing gets the seat warm and cooks my ass. It's getting old. Plan B -- Crank up the garage heater and blast the radio, park my butt in the lazy boy and consume lots of Becks dark beer. :goofy:
  17. If you were used to the linked brakes, you will need to recalibrate yourself on separate rear brake. With a separate rear, you get to decide when you want rear brakes and when you dont. I have the exact same rear caliper setup with a RC51 master. (check my gallery) I believe the CBR600RR, F4i, and RC51 are all 14mm bore M/C's. I once calculated that with a 14mm m/c it gives a set up very simular to a stock 4th gen rear brake performance. -- If you decide over time that it's still too sensitive for you, I also calculated that a 5/8" bore m/c would tone it down a bit and still be an acceptable rear brake. Unfortunately, I cant give a specific bike or part that has one. Another tip - I believe that 2005 VTR1000 super hawk clutch master is separate resourvoiur type and may be another option for you, maybe cheaper. BTW awesome job - good luck
  18. I once envisioned a screen service based on the rider and the bike. Using the finite element method CFD or Computational Fluid Dynamics analysis, after a few computer model runs, the wonderkind vendor would kick out the perfect screen for the customer. -- Dream on......
  19. "coderighter" God, I need to call and get my OCD meds increased :cheerleader: :fing02:
  20. Forks are VFR800 upper tubes, Super Hawk lower tubes, SH rebound adjustors and guts, Traxxion Dynamics valving and mods. Brake calipers are RC51.
