  1. Owch thats high $1200? cops hand out tickets here like candy, but they are not so bad if you for example dont speed in contruction zones. You can ride rather freely here if you know where the districts are that have good roads but not so many cops then you can have a relatively good day of riding. Seems Nothern Colorado has more cops then the southern half, more tourist too so there is a connection there. There are a few roads like those (with no Dividing line) here too, but only for a stretch of about a half mile or so, roads that narrow can be found in California, Tn, North Carolina, usually in really remote places but none that pretty.

I wish I could say I have had no incidents but I have had my share of kissing the pavement, or mud as it were. Usually ice on the road or gravel, I ride kinda slow now so...well slower than I did.

  2. Those Norwegian mountain roads are narrow, no center dividing line - I thought for a while it was a one way but oncomming cars proved that wrong. You guys use the whole road, in the USA they ticket you for that but then again no dividing line here so what is the law there about that? You guys have any surprises with a car or bike appearing where you thought there was none?

  3. Really good write up. I enjoyed reading it. That pic of the Blue Ridge with the road winding into the foggy distance is great.

Ever work out your PC2 issue?

Well I got it home hooked it up to the pc, then played with it, definitly the throttle postion wire was jacked up cause I could bend the harness and it would change TP% on the screen. I dont know how to unhook the wires on the thing - cut them off shorter and rewire them into the jack? I accidently cut a wire too removing the tape.

  4. HS:

I can't even begin to imagine. It's on my list, but I'm a bit timid to do the forks. Just doing the brakes was a huge leap for me!

You know its not as critical on the forks as bleeding the brakes, in terms of getting out all the air. Just time consuming, I did writups in the article section on how to do it step by step. If you dont have any stiction well I guess its good?

  5. Are all the native Coloradans so well versed in the topography or are you the exception? I am always amazed at how you seem to know the name of every significant feature of the landscape.

I agree. I'm not quite sure how you keep all the mountain names straight. The mule deer better figure out how to hide a little better or they're going to look like this real quick!!! :3: :3: :3:

Doesn't hunting season start right around 10/1???

Maps, google earth, mapsource. Mountan names can be looked up! Which is what I do. For the most part I know them though if I seen them before. Purple moutains majesty has a significant historical meaning. Kathy Bates wrote that as part of her poem "America the Beautiful" which became the anthem. She was talking about the very same mountain Pikes Peak. If you visit the top of the mountain you will see a plaque dedicated to her and her poem for which was inspired by a visit to the top of Pikes Peak.

  6. whoa, I got a little freaked with just one buffalo standing next to my bike, that many I would have kept my distance. I just pulled out and took off around the gawkers, my vfr looked tiny next to a full grown bison - me on it. I never made it to the bad lands, what was that like?

  7. After riding Tmac, the Ozarks the only real advantage of those places over Colorado is the number of warm days to ride, the roads are twisty for sure but there are twisty roads like that all along the Colorado front range on par or superiour to those in Appaliacia, its just that there is a 4 month window to ride and the danger of sand and gravel from the high altitude road prep.

What we have is 42 14,000 foot peaks - no where else has that many high peaks in the US and all the foothills surrounding them.

I guess though once you have ridden somthing enough times you want to find somthing new so I was awstrucke by NC, TN, AR the first few times I rode there, but now I think CO has some of the best the country has to offer. Certainly the scenery is somthing to behold.

  8. Boy the fort collins folk are comming out of the woodwork for this one, I would love to ride up there more and explore some of the other roads. It just an all day affair to get there from Colorado Springs, perhaps a two day camping trip some day!

I also expanded on my ticket in my blog, more of the details I found disturbing about the way it was conducted.

  9. Rode it today and it was almost clean, they must have swept it.

Saw your buddy about half way to Deckers in the corners. Thankfully he had his radar on versus instant on so I got a few corners warning before I saw him.

I also ran into him a few days ago when I drove through there (same truck/atv combo). Again he was running radar. Seems they are getting a hard on for that area for some reason.

BTW - Did he actually call it Horse Power Hill when he was asking about the 50 mph speed limit?

NO I did though, I called It Horsepower Hill "ya mean Horsepower Hill"? Heh I guess I sort of let the cat out of the bag with that statement, it was a sure bet he was gonna go wait for me after that.
