Well, it did start out pretty damn nice, but it did have some road grime. Elbow grease pretty much. And a tooth brush. Wheel cleaner made for painted / clear coated wheels makes an excellent engine and chassis cleaner too. Spray down with cold water, liberally apply wheel cleaner all over and let it sit for a few minutes. Then start scrubbing. Rinse and repeat as needed. My current favorite is made by Turtle Wax

It should work because I put a 87 700 motor in a 86 frame ie no cam sensor. I had to compare the wiring harness that go into the cdi and modify one or two of the wires. I mite of swapped black boxes also its so long ago. Bike has 750 motor now with HRC cdi. The tach operates off the coil and spark unit for cylinders 1 & 3, yellow wire. I also put aftermarket gauges on one of my 86 VFR its a PITA but everything works.

Thank you! That is in the plan, but it will have to be a little later after the $ting of this round wears off a little. I didn't spend a lot of money, but the shock and fork springs weren't free. As well as the jets and all the o-rings. This reg/rect unit will be donated to my 1992 VFR project to get thru the initial build stages, as that unit is looking a little melty. This 95 is almost done. Finishing up installing a USB port, relocating the horn so the individual stainless brake lines can route where I want them, installing a parallel Fuel Cut Relay switch and a fan override switch. I'll add this just for future info. The 87 VFR switched to digital ignition and lost the front cylinder cam sensor. I don't think the 87 "auto-style" dash (tach) would work, even on the 1986 FII with the same looking gauges.

the subframes that the gauges mount to are different '86 to '87.

Looks nice and very well done but all that work and the standard forks and cbs brakes? C'mon. I like the coolant expansion tank though, if that's what is. Über cool.

Those are the only ones that have ever given me trouble... but I've never broke one. Now I soak, heat, soak, heat.

In my youth I had blown 3 vfr motors in my VFR750 1986. The tricky parts is not to break the 2 front lower hanger bolt ie PB Blaster. A scissor jack works wonders and removing the front tire help great front and rear stand and a extra pair of hands. I would download the service manual which helps also.

New shock installed. Refinished stands and controls installed. Subframe re-populated. Staintune polished up. I bought another inner / rear fender to trim down a little smaller than stock and use a plain license bracket. It was perfect and even had the correct year stickers. I just couldn't bring myself to cut on it. So I cleaned up previous trim work that was done for the Comp Werkes fender eliminator and will run this for a while still. I don't mind it, but wanted to switch over while I had it all apart. I'll look for yet another fender to mod.

I'm not new to vfr's, So a few years ago i stumbled across a vfr listing from back east. No picture, just a good guy selling a non titled, no key bike that has been in his shop for some time. No key no title, in pieces. I asked several times for pictures but only received 'man, it's in the back of my shop and i have to move stuff to pull it, and all the pieces out.' I said ok, when you get an opportunity to do so, just let me know, and I'll line up shipping', and paid the gentleman. Zelle is best. Immediate funds transfer, happy seller. 2 years go by, we chat on occasion, as i had shipper after shipper say, 'no can do, we dont do bikes anymore' or 'this is our lowest price to ship' and He was busy, i was busy, it just wasn't happening. Finally, after a long drawn out process, yes we were both patient, i found a shipper that met my needs via timeline, and price. I received pictures from the shipper. Yeup, all looks to be there, via text messages. So on her way she came! After work, a couple hours a night, weekends same thing couple hours. Between family time, and play time, I have just come to finish her to 90%🫣 1990 VFR 750 20,245 original miles with bridgestone tires manufacture date of 1991 on her still. all new as follows: Tires, thermostat, regulator/rectifier, clutch, stainless clutch line, stainless brake lines, new brake pads, all new fairing hardware, battery, fairings repaired just not painted, carbs rebuilt, new led lights for turns, parks, brakes, and headlights, new high mount exhaust, replaced rider step, and passenger steps and pegs, fixed side stand switch, new fuel pump, fork seals, fork springs, led under headlamp area for adjusting headlamp, also have led block showing off rear wheel. Usb chargers/voltage meters on pillion area, and rider left. grips will be soon as I haven't decided between the 3 sets I have 🤣

You should try Austria for rules and regulations, the home of bureaucracy and hierarchy! They love it! Park on the opposite side of the road (facing traffic) - fine. Park your bike with the front wheel to the kerb - fine. Make any modification to your bike and don't have it inspected and registered- fine. Use any non ABE stamped and approved accessories- fine. It's never ending 😭
