Member Contributer backonabike Posted July 9, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted July 9, 2016 Wifey went out with her girlfriends for dinner the other night, so I found myself a bachelor for the night. It was a beautiful Summer night so I grabbed the 99 redhead Viffer which I just detailed and headed out in search of a couple of hotdogs. I ride a couple of towns over and grab a couple when a young man probably 12 yo or so comes up to me and asks if that is my bike in the lot. I tell him that it is, and he asks me what it is and what year it is so I tell him that it is a Honda VFR and the year is 1999 which makes it older than he is. He just smiled and said "man, that is a nice bike!" 35K 16 years old and she can still turn a head.. I may get another bike someday, but I will never part with the redhead. Honda created a classic and I am lucky enough to own one. Life is good!
Member Contributer digitallyhip Posted July 9, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted July 9, 2016 I love showing kids the bike, waving at them, and generally encouraging them to see bikes in a positive light. Polarbear and I watched an excellent mother show her son the parts and features of our bikes in Squamish in October, 2014:

Very fine example you have there. The 5th gen MK1s,,, '98s and '99s are considered by 5th gen connoisseur nuts to be the most coveted ones. You're selling? MarantzManiac
yes, "thinking" of selling her! lol It looks like the classified forum isn't working anymore. There are no posts and it used to be active before upgrade?

RVFR
Awe.. so this is the infamous new Tunuo owner, got it. Now I know. So what's really needed here is a picture of both, side by side. I rode a 014 down at laguna, had every intention to buy one once back, but wouldn't ya know it I get an email from a friend that knew of what he called a clean VFR and the pic showed a Staintune, so figured it was at the least a look. ha fate jumped in and saved me a lot of $$$. But still in the back of my mind a certain Ape would be nice... Then this dude has the nerve to show us what he got. SMH with a smile.

Hopefully 70 people didn't line up on your lawn due to my error. (That's the type of response I'd expect.) Maybe classifieds are broken due to maintenance. Hispanic Slammer originally created a temporary forum to make us happy, even though he had little time to do so. He alluded to upgrading it in the future. It would be very cool to have a fully functional classified section again! X Fingers crossed X

I wonder if it would be considered insanity if I would sell my semi- pristine CA model '98 model 5th gen and picked up the super pristine '99 - 49 state model. Of course the OCD extreem farkel disease would creep in, probably worse than when I built the 98. (I blame marriedman for this folly.)........Yeow....Bleah! marriedman
I think you should totally do that mello. If you are still thinking about that ride on my old 5th gen, it must have made quite the impression.
Member Contributer mello dude Posted July 13, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted July 13, 2016 Well yeah, the ride on your 5th gen still sticks to me - the top end on that was an eye opener. I had been half planning grabbing 49 state cams while they are still available, along with finding a ECU..... or the other option was/is just finding a '99 and swap out the tasty bits. --- Marantz's bike is what I totally go for when I look for a new ride. RVFR
Now that's what I'm talking about. Look what the evolution has done in 17 years, love it, just look at that woulds ya. Man, if I was you I'd just back away from that idea of letting that 5th go, I mean really, where are you going to find another one like that? Put it away for now, and in the mean time run the socks off that Ape and tell me what you really think ;) Guess I better find that dealer and see what they have on the floor, whew!!!!! 49 minutes ago, MarantzManiac said: Since you asked so nicely here's some new bike porn.....
