Front tire covered in spots, rear has a little bit.

Did not like the feel of the front wheel.... This may explain....

Surely that's not the rubber failing... it looks mildly like silica?

Better bet is tar, gum or some other nasty crap picked up from the road... Does it rub off?

Riding around dikes will take care of this issue. :tour:

Heat it up with a torch (carefully) and get a trowel and try to see if it will scrap off///

Not sure if i would ride with it like that?

Looks like bitumen picked up from a melted road surface... Not sure I'd put a torch near it but a flat scraper and a little persistence should see it off the tyre...

To me, it just looks like oil and dirt, maybe ATF? I think I would just hit with dishwashing detergent and water. It should break up the oil.

Were you riding a lot at night lately??....Might be just some western european coastal snipes you've been running over......Their diet of earthworms, beach clams and juvenile red squirrels and moles results in that kind of slimey, oily stuff in their bellies....

Looks like road tar from a Michigan tar & chip job. An annual hazzard after the snow/thaw/freeze/bust cycle in Southeast Michigan. I would peal/scrape as much as I could off and then have another look. I would not use any more heat than I could get out of a hair dryer. Ride safe dude.
