  2. No Honda V4, but the new model still looks schweet
  3. SC-Project works on the exhausts for the RC213V
  4. From listening to Asphalt and Rubber, it sounded like Polaris was going to 're-organize'. Where their indian line was going to compete against HD, and Victory was to change into more of a street bike (not cruiser). Bummer to hear they are closing down.
  5. Maybe somewhere in here for MrMatt And as far as mine is
  6. There are two threads about it. One of MrMatts, and one of mine (haven't finished it yet). We both needed wheel spacers and to machine the triumph axles. Not aware of a drop-in solution. IIRC, I used an 07 Sprint 1050 axle.
  7. http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/ohio-alaska-honduras-as-long-as-it-takes-me.362479/ Here is a link to my buddy's Istvan's trip. He was pretty much trying to do it on a low budget solo on a terrible KLR650. Some pretty good info once you get closer to the pacific NW part. It is a highly entertaining read, as he is a pretty good writer. I can always give you his contact info if you want to ask specific questions on his experience. My takeaway from his experience is: always have extra gas cans. Don't do it on a KLR. Don't ride bicycles maintained by hippies.
  8. Custom valves available from http://shop.kpmivalvetrain.com/ They would probably do a custom kit (valves, seats, guides, springs, retainers, keepers), but I'd guess that would run $800USD for the valves alone, probably $1500USD total. That's a lot of money when the bikes aren't worth that much most times. But I bet there would be a handful of people who would buy a full kit.
  9. I was going to say Micron. That "heat treat' color is typical of their stuff.
  10. There are ceramic bearings. If you area really serious into blowing money into this, then I would look into them. There's also a company called Microblue that puts some coatings on their steel and ceramic bearings, but not sure if there's been any real testing. I think most race teams use ceramic where possible. I'd be interested to know what you do with the pistons if anything. Impossible to get, and the closest piston that would fit is from a Ninja 250, but would need a bore on already thin walls. Biggest concern is the frame. There's not a whole lot of...frame.. to it. Bigger forks might not work all that great. But keep posting away
  11. Well, I found a company that has a spring kit for the VF500 while looking through custom trellis frames. http://www.rdvalvespring.com/index.html Under spring kits, honda, bottom of the page. Worldwide dealer network.
  12. I'd have to measure the springs again to see if they were in spec. but the springs varied a lot. It would be great if there was a full rebuild kit for the VF heads, but with all new valves, springs, gaskets, guides, seats, ect, that would be 2x as much as the bikes are worth. But with how many of these engines went south, there would surely be some demand. Can't say I know of a more powerful 500cc engine off the top of my head.
  13. I have no idea how to do it without pulling the head. If you can do it with keeping the head intact, it is the way to go, as OEM head gaskets were hard to find, and not sure about aftermarket. It gets even better when the head gaskets went through different revisions for different year engines. I probably have some extra parts from my rebuild worse case. Are you sure the valve is good? Some from one of my engines. PS. Don't bother buying another engine. They are all bad.
  14. It was coming up as a pop-up before this weekend's race. Isn't showing up now. Should have taken a screenshot.
  15. ..as in beer. MotoGP.com has started advertising the end of the season as free with registration. Not sure if you get to watch previous races or not, but if you want to see the last couple of races, something to look into.
  16. Very lucky on finding the tappet. Is the valve stem and everything still there on that valve? It's amazing that it was even running and didn't just break the rocker arm or something. Are the threads on either side damaged?
  17. Valve inspection is the first thing I would do, right after a cylinder compression check. Great engine, but not reliable if not watched with a careful eye. Eventually I'll finish putting my 500 engine back together after a valve dropped, punched a hole in the cylinder, and did a bunch more damage. This is somewhat typical. But if you keep an eye on things it should be fine.
  18. Compared to the last race, the passes in this race were fairly easy.
  19. Man oh man, where to start. Can't remember the last time there was so much excitement across all the races for the full session. Too bad for Sam Lowes. It was great seeing him get back into form after a bit of a lull. Congrats to Vinales for a clean sweep to the end. Wonder if he is going to start thinking about whether he's making a mistake moving to Yamaha. He could have gotten Rossi's seat in a couple years. It was jaw dropping to see Cal fight with MM. Both were on it. Guess that's the only way VR has a chance at getting back in the title chase. Draw MM into a fight and push until one or the other makes a mistake. And when you have two riders who try to immediately retaliate, it's amazing that neither hit the pavement. Wonder what they use to clean rubber off of leather...
  20. Pretty thrilling race. I'd still be royally pissed off at my team mate when I have a championship to fight. GO NICKY!
  21. I read through a lot of his blog/write-up on all the stuff he did. Very cool bike.
  22. I've never heard of this 4th gen fork flexing thing. I know that USD forks are more rigid by design.
  23. It was curious to see how MM caught and then was just following JL, until VR passed them both. Then he dropped the hammer and went after. Going to assume that he was just biding his time and didn't expect VR to be as fast as he was. Some entertaining efforts from MV. Almost a tag-team effort with him and VR moving up the pack. Good race in Moto2. Another crash for AM though. Something seriously wrong there.
