  1. In case you guys haven't already seen this.

  2. Thanks for the input, guys. Here's where I'm at. 330mm was nearly impossible to get in. I may have backed off 1/2 mm but it took force to get the plates/bolts in. Changing the length of the shock will allow easier install in that regard, but does not change the lack of clearance to the cat, for instance, as all of that is driven by the plates...unless the cat is moved/lowered. The bike had ~3k miles on it, so unless it was a visually perfect repair, I think everything was factory when I bought it. It was an "I know what I got" seller...but he owned Harley's, so I expected that! Because at 330mm (same a '98) the aSS end is way up there, part(s) have to be different. I have no way to easily compare them without removing them from both bikes, so I took the tack of p/n research. Some p/ns had changed, but the same ones (for parts listed in prior posts-singarm, frame, linkage, dogbone, centerstand, etc.) fit both bikes outside of the actual shock p/n which is different. I can't know beyond that unless someone else posts some info about theirs...and I heard only crickets. I suspect that the area where the top of the shock mounts to extends slightly further down on the '00. that would cause trouble getting the 330mm shock in and raise everything...but I'm making that up. There are quite a few parts that could have changed to cause this symptom. So...I sucked it up and got my Captain big boy pants on and shortened the shock 1.5 turns, so 1.5 mm, which turned into a no weight (on centerstand) measurement change of 2-3 mm. I expected more or I would have shortened the shock more. (CB-1 is 3-4 mm per 1mm change in shock length, for reference.) Again...I wish folks that know would chime in. I may have to do that one more time, but I'm going to ride it as is (and set warm sag properly) and see what happens. Stay tuned or tune out. It's up to you. 🙂 1998 at 330mm. Plenty of room and easy to install. 2000 problem with clearance, Clarence

  3. Gently pry up on it using 2 thin flathead screwdrivers or butter knives. They are press fit to the motor shafts. Make sure the needles remain in the "power off" position when removing and reinstalling. You do not want to rotate or twist them, especially when reinstalling.

  4. I've long been a VFR fan, and in fact a '96 VFR750F was the first bike I ever bought new... I think I was on a VFR forum way back then, but it's been a minute. Since then, I've done a lot of riding, drag racing, road racing and touring and 20 some bikes later, I'm back to a Honda V4. I sold my last bike (FJ-09) about 3 years ago because I was tired of the homicidal drivers where we lived. We've since retired, and it was time to get back on two wheels. Last weekend, I picked up a very clean '07 Interceptor in Freddie Spencer colors. Back when these came out, I loved the look, but the VTEC was a bit of a turn-off, and what I really wanted was a 1000cc VFR, so I never got that interested. Today, these bikes are a really good value, and I had forgotten how nice the Honda V4s are to ride. Even if it doesn't have gear driven cams... 😉 Anyway, I'm sure I'll be scouring the forum for info on the bike since it's been a while since I had a VFR. Looking forward to many happy miles!

  5. This bike is Color Code R157E and was a factory Europe only model to celebrate Honda's 50 anniversary. Only paint and decals were different. I saw a few on the road in London and one for sale new at a Berlin Honda dealer in '99-'00. This paint scheme is a tribute to early Honda race bikes. Look closely and you'll see silver pinstriping on the tank and rear cowl. Not aware of any performance mods from the factory. Honda Britain also developed a 50th Anniversary UK specific line that included: VTR1000 Firestorm aka SuperHawk, CBR1200xx Super Blackbird, CB900rr Fireblade CBR600f, and VFR800. This special edition VFR was sold with: Remus exhaust, Harris rear sets and frame sliders. I don't remember of any other mods. Re: pic of bike in question. have no idea. The paint looks orange,

  6. I came across this today in a local online marketplace, thought you guys might get a laugh out of it as I did From what I got out of the ad the guy said it has a 1987 VFR700 engine that works great but would need a little work on the drive axle as it was twisting the axles he had kicking around The second picture shows the torque strip he left on the pavement. God the mind can sure go to some dark places when you get bored
