Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 15, 2017 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 15, 2017 Will the collector box wirh the rear headers attached come out? And the replacement one in? The replacement's headers are "solid" too..

I dont mind wrecking the leaky one, but not the "new" one.... And it started pissing sideways rain, so enuf for now. Will clean and paint some parts indoors instead
jeremyr62
I would definitely try to loosen the headers from the "new" collector. I would have thought they would come out OK with some twisting action,. penetrating oil and plenty of heat applied to area. That way you can leave the existing rear headers attached to the engine. The other reason is if you have to remove again for whatever reason(1), at least you know it is possible to loosen them. (1) Like repainting the collector box every two years for example. I have had no trouble getting the collector off since.
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 15, 2017 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 15, 2017 Cheers Jeremy for the encouragement The chain adjusters are in the oven now: They looked clatty, so degrease, 2 thin coats of paint, 30minute bake off :-) only needed a bit of spit and polish as I have put a mud flap between rear wheel and shock. Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 15, 2017 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 15, 2017 Fark that.. Penetrating oil, let it soak Apply heat to lower part Hammer away Nada Also attempt to loosen one header on the replacement. Nada. Calling it a day for today before I do something stupid like kicking the bike over... Will do some wiggling in the morning once more.... jeremyr62
Yes, it's a bugger to shift. All I can suggest is two persons, one to hold a very stout piece of wood and target the area on the collector between the two rear ports and the other to hit the other end with the biggest lump mallet/sledge hammer you can find. When I did mine I was on my own and managed to hit my hand with the sledge. I now have a nice permanent bump on the bones near my wrist. I assume I broke a bone and it has knitted together imperfectly leaving the bump. And it hurt. A lot.
