VFRfix
Is there a specific model number for the 5th gen battery? I saw one on craigslist that checks out as fitting my bike for $33: http://www.amazon.com/Maintenace-Performance-Replacement-Maintenance-Powersport/dp/B00JH23KOU/ref=pd_cart_vw_2_1_p?ie=UTF8&refRID=0E3GNDTWA0Q0JDQTD06H Here is one for $6 more: http://www.amazon.com/YTX12-BS-High-Performance-Maintenance-Motorcycle/dp/B006LO7YM6/ref=pd_cart_vw_2_2_p?ie=UTF8&refRID=1FRM21E9MS08Z930WTVW which of these would you go with? Member Contributer expvet Posted May 5, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted May 5, 2015 If you know about the tendency for VFR's to have charging system problems you want to put a good battery in there that won't make the system work any harder than needed. I have used this for the last 2 bikes I had and they are great. Cost a bit more but fits in the ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure box. Can possibly be found for cheaper than Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/MotoBatt-MBTX12U-Factory-Activated-QuadFlex/dp/B003YMRH70
Member Contributer FJ12Ryder Posted May 6, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted May 6, 2015 Of course the other side of the coin is that you put a cheap battery in, knowing that the VFR charging system might take it out and you won't be out so much coin. I usually get mine when someone runs them on sale.

keef
I've got a moto batt meant for a ninja 250, smaller lighter, but has no probs starting the Vfr. And holds a charge really, really well.

I like that quad terminal design. Hook up the main cables to one set and accessories to the other set.

Member Contributer BusyLittleShop Posted May 12, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted May 12, 2015 Lithium versus Lead AcidAll energy packed in storage presents some risk and Lithium-ion batterieshave about seven times the energy density of traditional lead-acidbatteries, which means you can get much more power from a muchsmaller-and lighter-battery pack. As with any new, unfamiliartechnologies, lithium~ion batteries have spawned various alarmistviews but used properly, they're superior to their old lead-acidpredecessors.For owners of performance oriented machines installing a Lithiumbatteries is the cheapest quickest and easiest way to shed unwantedweight but I’ve noticed they're not for everybody... especially someof my customer who close their wallet with a torque wench...I've been using Lithium Iron batteries since 2009... First was the(SpeedCell) since sold to a customer... currently Mr.RC45 is poweredby a Shoria... I think days of the old heavy lead acid battery arenumber... smart money is on the new light weight Lithium Ironbattery... If not then the batteries alone were the same cost, I added a battery tender to the battery and still saved almost $50 over the cost of a Shorai. http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-BTL14A240C-Lithium-Phosphate/dp/B00UW3WHP6/ref=pba_ru_B00UW3WHP6_B00F9LPJ8S_0 This what I just bought...replacing my entire charging system prior to TMac this year and this LiFePo battery and the correct trickle charger for $45 LESS than a Shorai...
