Surely I did it when I did all the other work this winter? I guess I'll have to do it before we leave just to be sure. New tires are stacked up in the garage. (New pair of Powers for both bikes!) SEBSPEED Posted September 18, 2011 Author Share Posted September 18, 2011 Brian (midlife) and I (but mostly Brian) have been checking on the roads that we intend to ride. We met up for lunch today and checked a few more; so far, so good. A few areas of gravel pack where new asphalt has not been put down yet, some errant dirt and gravel but nothing that was in a bad spot where you'd be caught with your pants down... like in the middle of a corner. 2 big links are still missing and will not be repaired in time for the ride, but we can and will work around that. I have a section to check out this week, if that works out then the long route can be locked in. Shorter route has many options and shouldn't be a problem. Right now we're looking at a minimum of 3 groups. There won't be a Fast group this year(unless someone REALLY twists my arm...), it's looking more like 1 Slow, 1 Intermediate, and 1, erm... more lively Intermediate. Due to the flooding, some sections of road had to be replaced and in doing so the washed out sections have been built up with dirt/stone/gravel, which will be paved again. These are temporary construction issues that I hope will be resolved before winter, but likely will not be fixed before the ride. Intermediate looks like it will be in the 220mi range, Intermediate Fast closer to 260mi. But, meh, we'll see how I'm feeling. Maybe get Burns to run through the Gaps with me - Lambs Gap Rd; Miller's Gap, etc... lots of fun in the back country of Cumberland and Perry Counties...
