  1. Got out of shape trying to get out of the garage. I am a tool, so your results may vary. I have wished for it during some highway stints at times.
  2. I installed one of'em crampbusters and it nearly killed me. Use with caution.
  3. So sad to hear this. Condolences to Laird's family. We had shared rides and rooms during earlier TMacks. He was a great guy.
  4. I only cover the brake lever with two fingers in high traffic or otherwise dangerous situations, where I might have to stop unexpectedly. I also Only apply brakes with two fingers. No need for more on a VFR or most other modern sport bikes. If your fingers get trapped under the lever, adjust it out a notch and/or bleed the front brakes.
  5. WoW, BR. Very cool. Thanks for sharing your story.
  6. The two wires connect to the front brake switch. It's at the base of the brake lever.
  7. A perfect first bike. Have fun with your boy. Mine, who is 14, is starting to look at my project 3rd gen funny - As if I was building it for him...
  8. A little late to the party, but welcome aboard and you have definitely made the right choice. Enjoy! P.S. I would never own another non-ABS bike. Unless it's a super cool oldie. I'll give you a very recent example of why: Hard on the brakes into the turn, a line of oldish oil intersects my turning line in two places. I do nothing about it - Just ignore, hoping that the oil is old enough not to matter. As my front crosses the oil, I feel a momentary buzzing of the ABS. No slip, no drama. Didn't even need to replace my undies afterwards.
  9. Send him a PM. Screen name is BLS
  10. Just got home. This event, as always, has been best times ever. Learned something new, saw old friends and made new ones. Oh, and rode them roads. Until next year!
  11. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Do you think that there is value in balancing the bare wheel alone and then again with the tire?
  12. You will certainly find the right home for them at the right price.
  13. There have been extensive discussions of the virtues of dynabeads about... 7-8 years ago when they appeared on the horizon. I then took the time to read the "scientific" justification for why they are supposed to work and it never made sense to me. Still, being humble enough to accept that the fact that I don't understand something doesn't mean that it isn't true, and also because the price of admission was low enough, I bought'em. Still have a vial of them sitting around on the shelf - Should anyone want them, they are yours for the cost of shipping. And Mohawk, I don't think I understand your point re. no effect on balance of changing position of the tire relative to the rim.
  14. Used them once when they just came out. Didn't work for me - Still had vibrations. Never used them again. In my case, the beads have remained loose. P.S. Never meat a tire that didn't need to be balanced.
  15. I would ask Jamie for an upgraded shock. About 400 USD plus shipping to Norway. Might as well invest, since you're spending. This, plus an upgrade to the front springs/valves makes a huge difference in handling.
  16. Tim, I don't know the area, but I hope you enjoy it. P.S. Dress warm. I saw snow flurries in the Catskills this Sunday, which made me finally take interest in heated gear.
  17. I had to do a frantic double-take of the calendar myself... Feeewww....
  18. I sent my forks and rear shock to JD. Yep. I'm a pu$$y That beer tasted mighty fine though One word of advice: Take the bike to the suspension shop once you're done tinkering and ask them to set it up for ya - Sag, compression, rebound, etc... I did and not regretting.
  19. Original color is not really matching what it looked like back in the day due to fading. The best way to match is by professional paint shop as mentioned above. For newer bikes and certain colors, Color Rite works very well - I used it to paint my 06 black and can't tell the difference. Disclaimer: I am not color blind. I am also using CR to paint pearl white 3rd gen and it is extremely close to the original 20+ y/o pearl white. VFR Red was quite a bit off.
  20. $hit falling out due to old age is not limited to bikes
  21. I am not saying that your the bike isn't set up well. For instance, my rear (tire) is also almost touching the ground. I know why - b/c I was chasing ground clearance, so forks are also lowered to keep a good geometry. The point I am trying to make is, that if Hugh is uncomfortable with this setup, he should make it comfortable for him and not have anxiety attacks going into each corner, just b/c PO knows what he is doing.
  22. I'd use this opportunity to get something with ABS. A well set up 6th gen can be a very capable machine. Much cheaper than the 8th gen and essentially the same bike.
  23. This tells me that your rear is hiked way up. Again, this may have worked for the PO, but most, including myself, would not want to ride like that. In addition to "falling" into turns, you are also more prone to a tank slapper at speed. I've had one. Not something I wish to repeat. My advise would be to return the bike to stock and then tweak it to YOUR liking.
