  1. Great that it's working for you. It's often said that get the spring rate right and the damping becomes less of an issue. Hope you get a long life out of the new equipment
  2. Tell us how effective you are finding the combined compression/ rebound adjuster
  3. 8Gen VFR steering update: Took raYzerman' advice and increased front tyre pressure to 38psi. Noticeable but marginal improvement in steering sensitivity. Dropped the triple clamps down by a modest 5mm. Instant improvement in speed of turn in, no stability issues at high speed (80mph), my sense is of improved front end feel and particularly the slightly harsh initial compression damping seems much smoother (8 Gens have stiffer suspension damping than earlier gens). Body positioning, control position, ergos and basic suspension settings are always sorted first on my bikes before anything else is done.
  4. Muc-Off seems to work well
  5. From: https://www.castrol.com/en_gb/united-kingdom/home/products/automotive/automotive-engines/greases.html#tab_multipurpose-grease Castrol Multipurpose Grease Lithium based grease intended for the lubrication of a wide variety of plain and rolling element bearings used within the automotive industry. It's excellent structural stability makes it particularly suitable for use in the wheel bearings of cars, buses and trucks where operating temperatures are within the limits specified. Meets or exceeds industry standards: NLGI Grade 2
  6. Ktech claim the standard shock spring on the VFR800x cross runner is 160Nm.
  7. Hey Dutchy, any specific reason for not using iridium this time?
  8. That colour scheme just hits the right note for me. Kinda wish I had bought a white 8 Gen to enable a copy.
  9. What do you make of the 8 Gen forks? Have you got them standard or resprung (linear?) and/or reshimmed?
  10. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273826520551 Seem to be some around. This is one example
  11. Hi Tim. The calipers on the 2017 onwards model are different from those on your bike. They are similar or the same design as the CBR1000R and have no pad retaining pin. I notice that the fork lowers have different parts numbers between the 2014-16 ( 51420MJMD11 and 51520MJMD01) and 2017 on (51420MJMD31 and 51520MJMD31) models so there is a chance that the mounts were redesigned as well. I cannot absolutely confirm that they won't fit but there is a risk. Out of interest, why do you need a new caliper?
  12. That is quite special. I'm quite envious. It all looks very nicely put together; neat lines and purposeful
  13. Yep, I'll second that although I found the VF500F2 with Metzeler ME33 tyres upped in width from standard by 10mm all round and an aftermarket shock worked really well in 1986. But that bike you've put together; hmm just perfect. Is that fairing from a fire blade?
  14. That takes me back to the 80s; 😍
  15. I second DrErgal's comments on tyre stiffness. You will notice a more communicative and 'harder' ride with Dunlop and Bridgestone.

Thanks Lorne, that very helpful. I was thinking along similar lines after Captain80s observations and I think that it will work. You've saved me having to hunt around for dimensions.
  17. Cool pic. Love it!
  18. Perished part 12?

    Clip-ons

The clipons are the one feature I wish the 8 Gen had retained. The handlebar design on the last model makes adjustment of the angle impossible with the OEM kit. My wrists tell me they don't want to go lower, just more inward.
  20. Here's a link to a video on how it should work if you weren't sure
  21. Hi Martsi, the wax units rarely fail. It sounds like your fast idle valves are shut possibly because the wax unit linkages are stuck. Try moving the linkages to open the valves and apply some light lubricant like WD-40 to get them operating smoothly. Also check the coolant feed hose to the unit is properly attached while you are in there I am assuming this is a new problem and that the bike had been working fine before this idle issue started? A pair delete is unlikely to have caused this problem.
  22. Don't worry. RdChinoy is going to show us all how it's done. I'm hoping he can release factory and prototype power from his 6th gen. Just following his threads to see if I can do the same..... here's hoping
  23. I too took the lazy man's route. By lying on my bed dreaming about prototype power........ Hope springs eternal and all that.
