  1. From the album: norcal

Had to track down a small coolant leak last month, life kept happening, and I haven't re-attached the fairing yet. Which is silly because it takes 10 minutes. But it needed riding more.
  2. I do love those Colin Edwards colors Dutchy. When I took this pic yesterday I noticed how cool the exhaust looks when uncovered, that loooong pipe leading to the (huge) stock cans. On both sides.

No, the plastic didn't fall off--safely hanging in the garage. Barely 50 degrees F---brrr! ;-)
  4. Hi St. Stephen, Thank you for your donation of 25.00 USD. We look forward to improving the forums with your donation. Thanks VFRDiscussion
  5. Very nice right away, look isn't polarizing to me anyway. Please keep updating with pics. Captain 90's!
  6. Judging by the whitecaps the wind was howling at the coast. Great scenery and great bike.
  7. My car is a 2003 Honda Element, which I bought new 19 years ago. This past winter at about 159,000 miles all the gauges went dark, couldn't drive it at night. My shop found a used instrument cluster, which fixed the problem. But I got the donor car's odometer also! Now it only has 133,000 miles. I'm kinda pissed. edit: I like this photo because it's my 2003 Honda towing my 2003 Honda. 😎
  8. Well that's an adventure Jim! Now I have look up cutting over 108 to 4--not that I have the bike to do it. Must have been beautiful but slushy. Bike looks great and well-accessorized.

How many times have I taken this same photo? I need to stop.
  11. From the album: Rides

Took a roundabout trip to San Diego from the north bay this past week, about 1500 miles.First day was across the central valley and over 108 ending up In Mammoth Lakes for the night. Next night was Big Bear Lake.

Harder than changing out the crankshaft. Removing and replacing the 7th gen plastic.

NH69 Doesn't this look very cool? I will see him, and Bradl, race at PI in a couple of weeks, can't wait!
  14. Sometimes it's better to build your own from scratch instead of mutilating a perfectly good VFR. Met this couple just south of Eureka CA four years ago:
  15. Actually it's worse than the worst of both worlds because, as VFRD member BrianF mentioned to me a few years ago, it's a three-track! You can't avoid that pothole, speed bump, or dead skunk in the middle of the road. (that being said, someday when I can't balance any more and dementia is setting in I will probably purchase a CanAm)

    Track day coaching

My local track day group has two days at Laguna Seca in September this year, guess I have to sign up. Still haven't figured out turn 2 & the corkscrew... Waaaay off topic but if you like Joey Cook you have to like Eva Cassidy. 😎

    Track day coaching

+1 bmart, great advice! This is something I wish I was aware of much earlier in my motorcycle riding life...into a turn a little too hot, weight already on my arms, every muscle in my body tightens and, as you point out, the bike stops handling. It still takes me a conscious effort to be loose, or, as I think Lee Parks put it, only use the muscles that are needed for the task. Easier said than done, for me anyway. For this reason adding Stompgrips to the tank of my RC-51 made me a much better track day rider (OK, I'm a lifetime B- group guy, but still...) because it allowed me to grip securely with my knees and use arms and hands for fine control movements.
  18. Great write up Darryl. Do you now own a 5.5th gen? 😎 Glad you survived the track day crash, hope to read a ride review of your "5.5" soon.

Yes VFR750F3, I'm about 170 lbs. The original shock was toast when I bought the RC-51 in 2016. Took me two years to take a really deep breath and spend the $, but the new shock made a significant and noticeable difference, even for a B- track day rider like me. Kyle Racing sent me the shock with spring and wishbone customized to weight and riding style, they do know RC's.

    Track day! Sunrise at Sonoma.
  22. That's true Lorne, particularly the southern half of the BRP, around Asheville. Although I grew up (mostly) on the east coast, and have been a Californian for the last eight years, my very first overnight motorcycle trip was Eugene OR (proud SEHS graduate!) to Crater Lake, to Coos Bay, at 17 years old. I do see some similarities.
