Any good deals on New/used OEM side cases.
Artfulkatana replied to Stuntmunky's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
Can't help you with the side cases, sorry. But what exhaust can is that? And are those the bolt on frame spiders just behind the front fairings? Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk -
What's frustrating to me is for some reason my level has been inconsistent. It used to be if I could get 50 miles before I lost the first bar, I was good. It used to be 125 miles and it would flash but I'd only fill 3.1-3.4 gallons. The bike was knocked over by a $-+*"$ with a backup camera equiped SUV. Since the repair, it will knock a bar off before 50 miles, but can do 140 miles before it starts getting mad at me. I pushed it to 160 miles and only filled 3.8 gallons. No idea what's happening, but I'm all over the place.

Pilot Road 4GT going 15k miles on mine and plenty of tread left. Great wet performance, and the best for 2 up riding. PR4's are nice, but I feel a little too soft compared to the GT's. They've paid for themselves twice over now.

Fuel economy. 180 miles per tank is a joke
Artfulkatana replied to Howesnet's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
Full luggage and 6' 4" tall, I get 130 miles going to and from work around the San Juan Islands in Washington State. I've gotten 160 in a tank just on freeways, but I didn't want to push it further. Upgrades? I removed the exhaust flapper valve cable lol. I tend to keep the bike under 6k unless I see a tempting car or bike to race and always beat heh Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk -
I threw on Pilot Road GT4's on mine. Rolling at 9k miles with wear from new, but they still have about 5k or more left. I typically ride 2 up as well with plenty of weight, and the cornering feel is phenomenal. Not great cold though, they take time to warm up with how hard they are in the center of the tread. Loss of 12HP from 152 is less than 10%...But I agree something's not right... 140 rwhp compared to 173 crank gives exactly 19% - that would be the less efficient drive shaft I've ever seen. Even quattro torsen is more efficient...on 4 wheels.I'm talking about total system loss. More to say they use DIN in NED. 140 DIN is 138 SAE. I agree on that notion of it being too much of a loss. I read somewhere (can't remember) that the loss was only 6% off the crank. I'll try and find that source again. The VFR is supposed to have the best power change between the crank and wheel of any shafty bike. Although I don't know the newer BMW numbers yet.Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

I just don't want there to be corrosion. Starts to make weaker points in the shaft, more prone to crackingSent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk Yeah...surface corrosion so roughly -0.005 mm tops...this has to have a negative effect of your power and handling...-50HP rouglhy...uhmm.... Pg. 3 post #24 (new part number) At page 3 post #24 there is nothing. New part number where? On post #23 there is the photo of a shaft identical to the old one. In Europe Honda is stating that the new shaft is still not produced and they are installing the old one on bikes that have problems. Yep, on German forum the reckon they already had a new version installed...but in other countries in EU Honda said - no new model before March. The guy from page 3 had the OLD one installed - he cant have a new one as it was not even manufactured yet...as he posted that a month ago. Not possible, sorry... I said nothing about power loss. I'm saying fracturing of the shaft under pressure. I've seen a lot less do a lot of damage in my field of work, so let's not argue this. All I'm talking about is preventing this. I don't care how infinitesimal the pitting is, I want it corrected and prevented.Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk I had mine done yesterday. I never looked under the bike but can now see where water may enter into the driveshaft. The driveshaft cover has small gaps between the swingarm and the cover itself. Maybe I will use duct tape around this area to prevent water from entering this area.I'm putting aluminum tape on mine actually. Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

That's not at all useful. How many people are taking their VFR's off road in the dirt where that's a practical skill. Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

It ends up being a cheaper, quicker option that many do before they know about Guhl. I didn't know until 2 weeks ago and I've had the bike with a Z-bomb for almost a year nowSent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

I had the same type of corrosion pitting. I find it odd. I also noticed I had less slop in my shaft, especially in parking lots with little throttle twitches. It's much smoother than it used to be for me. Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

Ah! But it doesn't look fine! Why the significant corrosion and pitting in the one area around the whole shaft?it's not "even" pitting and corrosion too, so it's not rubbing on anything. I'm NOT satisfied with the way that looks, or the way mine looked Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

I saw one on the Clinton/Mukilteo ferry on Whidbey Island, evidently he lives about 20 miles south on the same island that I do. It was the first time either of us saw a ViffrSent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

New Vfr! Valve Clearance Check?
Artfulkatana replied to justin106's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
Funny enough, the rocker arms are similar to a VW lol, simple 8mm retaining nut with a straight slotted screw? No more of those stupid honda specific spacer discs? Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk -
Lol, well there are a lot of bikes that will completely destroy the vfr1200, off the line and everywhere else, some cars too. You just haven't come across anyone interested and capable of racing Never said it was the fastest. A 2.7 0-60 is still hard to beat. I have yet to reach that, my best was 2.92, and that bike is more than capable of attaining more than that. Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

Ironic, looking at that horrible, crab eyed lump of shit in your avatar ;)Since this thread was brought from the dead here ^^^ This motorcycle is amazing, I have a Z-bomb, heated grips, OEM hard bags and a givi trunk. It's also the non-DCT. It's snappier than the combersom FJR, and the Concourse 14 is just a loose mess of a...thing. K1300 is exquisite, but I haven't run into a SINGLE MOTORCYCLE that can beat me off the line. The Kawasaki speed-death-trap-14, CBR1000RR, R1, whatever. And I live in a town with one of the largest Naval air stations in the world! So a lot of people have money, they have motorcycles, they have model motorcycles! I have yet to lose. This thing, fully loaded handles better in the corners than my beloved Saab, and that's saying something. So ride better? Also, powershifting. I'm fast, I use the bike to commute, tank is a bit low, but who cares? Buy a car if you want 400+ miles. And I'm sure as shit that I have pissed people off now :-D EDIT: Lastly, since I'm all worked up about this now, best bike for what it does, and it does everything well, no question...Except off road. Because dual-sport is stupid. I'm NEVER selling this bike. And while I remember, I've achieved 62 MPG once, and I got flamed for being an idiot. I don't always ride hard. It's not uncommon to do REALLY well with fuel consumption. Some days it's more economical to ride my 750, a lot of times its not. Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/twisted-throttle-tool-tube-w-mounting-kit What about this under a trunk if anyone has that equiped? I should take measurements, but I think it would fit above the tail light Sent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk

Weird Noise When In Neutral With Clutch Out
Artfulkatana replied to Epiclobotomy's topic in Maintenance Questions
This is going to sound weird, and a bit of a conspiracy theory, but the infamous "Honda Clutch Rattle" comes to mind from the CB750's, my '81 SS suffers from it. Apparently, there's trace remnants for all of Hondas. This is totally useless information, just interesting to think aboutSent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk -
New Vfr! Valve Clearance Check?
Artfulkatana replied to justin106's topic in Seventh Generation VFR's
Is it a terribly difficult job to perform? Do I need to set aside a whole day and 10 hours, or am I looking at a pre-superbowl maintenance check? -
I'm 2 seconds away from selling all 3 bikes and my 1953 MG TD for this. there's a dealer near Seattle..........The sound is it finally did it for me. I love everything I was reading, pictures and such, then I watched some videos and....well....mm...my wife won't be happy next week.

The black at the bottom of the tank is a Kevlar type guard against rubbing... I also have a tank pad protector that has VFR1200 scrolled in a triangular shape red on black.. Looks great and you can get them off eBay..... Look up 'Motografix'.OEM parts added by previous owner include full luggage, wind deflectors around hands, adjustable touring screen and heated grips. I have added my old satnav and some power cables etc. Am looking to get a DAM exhaust at some point (if the wife allows ) and have just found some cheap replacement pillion hand grabs to put on when not using the top box. When needed, will upgrade the tyres to something with much better feel as the standard ones suck... Ride safe. How are the hand guards and windshield? A bit pricey for OEM, but they're the only ones that I think look good for the bike. I'm 6'3", so wind is... AnnoyingSent from my SM-N910P using Tapatalk
