  1. Well stated danll. Confusion bought about by poor terminology. The CCT's ARE the Internal devices, and the CCT-Lifter is the device we are so used to replacing, with the two M5 8mm Hex Head bolts.
  2. Off the beaten track, nice shot, no place for an 8gen!!
  3. Love it Terry very funny, but oh so true! Cheers to you.
  4. My last rear tire was Michelin Road 5. Got 16,200k's 10,066miles out of It, all country riding, I may not be fast but I'm definetly not a slow coach! Looking at my records I'm generally getting 16 to 17,000ks out of a rear be it PR2's PR4's or the Road 5's I'm certainly a Michelin Man, as they say, when you're on a good thing stick to it! There are just sooooooo many variables when it comes to tire life/distance. And as always YMMV.
  5. Fitted this neat little white LED waterproof Voltmeter to the bottom of the GPS mount on my 8gen. Previous 3 wire voltmeter had died. 14.5v charging (when measured at battery) allowing for the 200mv drop through the wiring, 14.3 at the meter.
  6. Ah yes, sorry, I see what you mean now. They are talking about the Internal Cam Guide and the Internal Tensioner, not the external two bolts for the external CCT. You're right, I can't seem to find a torque value for the two external CCT bolts. - Interesting. Also checked the 8gen Service Manual no luck.
  7. CCT flange bolts and CCT lifter bolts are the same thing, spec is 20ft-lb. Post Edit - Sorry, Not correct, I got confused with the internal and external CCT's.!
  8. Funny about that. For some weird reason I kind of like the crackle and pop as well. The IXIL exhaust I have seems nicely matched to it. Can't stand anything obnoxiously loud, but with one of the two noise restrictors installed the pipe has a nice balance of V4 sound, not too loud, and some crackle and pop on decel. So I'll be a good enviromentalist and keep the PAIR system installed, thankfully keeping my VFR popping off. .
  9. Never tried running a VFR on cows milk! Glad you have an answer and all sorted. Never seen fuel look like that, may as well pour it on your favourite breakfast cereal
  10. Just a word of WARNING if you do the above test be careful to make sure you are jumpering the Blk/White wire to the Brown NOT the Brown/Black or you will seriously damage/destroy your ECM!
  11. Wonder if the tank vent hose is kinked or blocked? Are you fighting against strong vacuum to open the fuel cap?
  12. Bit of clarification, there is no Sidestand relay, just a switch. And yes it won't start if the Sidestand is down AND you're in gear, and it won't crank over as well. (clutch must be pulled in). Sidestand has no effect on a normal Neutral start. BUT let's say your ECM for some reason is not seeing the Neutral Switch input, then the ECM will only enable Ignition and Injectors IF it sees the Ground input from the Sidestand (UP position). If the ECM does not see a Ground Input from either the Neutral Switch OR the Sidestand Switch you'll be able to crank the bike (If in gear with clutch pulled in) but it will NOT fire up. So, even in Neutral try raising the Sidestand and try a start - does it fire up? As for the Fuel Pump, the Service Manual explains how to flow and pressure test the pump.
  13. Looks ok. Assume you have it looped through the helmet D rings. Just be careful the steel wire doesn't scratch your paintwork just where it exits the holder.
  14. Oh m8. Never tighten a new filter with these. Great for removal only. Weapon Of Mass Destruction!
  15. Hi Phil. That looks like a quality unit, made in the USA of course. Like the idea of thumb action, bet it's a treat to use. I know what you mean regards the Kaoko it can be fiddly in its operation for sure, but I do like the Kaoko's discreet appearance. Cheers.
  16. M8 that could have been VERY serious, glad you survived and got it all sorted. A good wash down with kero would clean up your tire. Use whatever it takes to get your oil filter Off if need be, BUT when installing it only needs to be very firm hand tight. Even on the 8gen there's enough room to get a hand in to tighten it. Never heard of a "channel lock" for installing filters what is it?

Magnificent shot. Great bike great scenary, looks like an oil painting. The difference between a top quality camera and phone camera is obvious!
  18. Hi Phil. Bike is looking great after the wash and polish. M8 there is no need to "give the front sprocket a good clean" you really only want to do this when you Replace the front sprocket at the time of a chain replacement. Just need to remove the lower left fairing, then remove the sprocket cover leaving the clutch slave cylinder attached to the cover. This allows you to unbolt and remove the front sprocket and clean up all the chain lube and crap that accumulates in this area. Not something you need to do unless replacing the sprocket. The VFR logo I have is the 6gen emblem used on the 2004/2005 model. The part number is 64220-MCW-D80ZA they are a Type 1 version.! One of these emblems is going to set you back around $50. They are a Honda stock item you can order through any Honda dealership. Don't reckon the emblem would work too well on your new screen especially if it's a Double Bubble type, the emblem is 245mm long and is 3D so it's a raised emblem, with all the bugs you'd get on the front screen it would make keeping the emblem clean a pain in the arse, a small stone impact front on could also damage it. Something to think about. Cheers
  19. - Ha Ha yes they look like two new sprockets but only the top one is. - You are absolutely right about the lens distortion.... It was taken with my mobile phone which seems to create the effect of slight elongation of some of the teeth on both new and old sprocket....Good observation RC36B. - Yes there is a lot of sand in Australia, but I don't ride the VFR there. - Used a riveted Master Link. Cheers.
  20. After 74,000kms fitted its Third chain D.I.D 525VX124FB (cut it back to 110 links). Very reluctant to replace the front original sprocket even after 74,000k's it looked near perfect! Still replaced it as I had a new one on hand. Fitted a new JTF1332-16 to the front. The rear was fine so left the OEM on. Big clean up done behind the sprocket cover. Original Chain - 36,650K's Second Chain - 37,380k's (EK525ZVX3124). Photo newly fitted sprocket Top. Old OEM sprocket after 74,000k's Bottom.
  21. Hi FJ12Ryder. That's a GREAT example of why battery voltage is NOT a true indication of capacity or health of the battery. Thanks for sharing your classic example. Good Luck with the new battery. Cheers.
