Growing up, I got the hand-me-down bicycle from older siblings.. I used to propel the adult bicycle forward without be able to pedal full circle while standing within the triangle of the bicycle frame as pictured: Even shared a bike with a friend sometimes, that's how I grew up without killing myself:

Picked up another SV for $600. 01 model, nearly stock, under 8k miles, less than 30 miles ridden in the last 7 years, have been sitting in the last 2 years. No rust inside the fuel tank. Will need chain/sprockets, fork seals, all fluids, etc.. It will be a nice & easy winter project, make a quick profit next spring.

Since 2013, I've been commuting back and forth between Phila, PA and Brooklyn, NY. Motorcycles are better suited for long distance on the highway, but lack the luggage carrying capacity. Additionally, once I get to Brooklyn, bumper-to-bumper traffic pattern occurs more often than I like, clutch-n-shift become old really quickly in the gridlock traffic. Most of my commute within NYC metro have been done on a maxi-scoot. My Burgman 650 was purcahsed under $2k, with 6k miles on odometer back in 2013; now over 23k mi. Triple digit speed capable, plenty of underseat storage, twist-n-go, no-clutch-shifting; not to mention that my wife gets to sit on a much comfortable seat than my other motorcycles, even has a backrest. Sure most motorcyclists don't consider much of scooters, but in reality, I prefer the Maxi-scooter over many of my other regular motorcycles. 2-wheel vehicles are about maneuverability in traffic and efficiency, scooters are better in both.

77 degree F in rural Philly this afternoon. I got all the bikes out of garage for a ride.

Impact wrench?

With weather turning cold, used bikes are cheap.. Picked up a nearly stock 2001 SV650S, minor body work scratches, needs carb sync, oil/filter/coolant/brake fluid change, 17k miles. $1250 cash. Lots of potential.

Today's pick: 2003 BMW F650GS, 17k miles. Needs Chain/sprockets, rear brake master cylinder replacement or rebuild. But it does come with a set of BMW side cases. $1500 cash.

Sold my BMW last year, replacing it with another next month: Yes, those are carbon wheels & Ohlins shocks.

Any background info on mileage? Last clutch plates replacement?

Years of riding dirt bikes with 38"+ standover height gives me plenty of practice being stable resting on one foot.
-
Personally, I find that having just one foot firmly on the ground is far more stable than trying to tip-toe between two feet during a stop. Just rest your body on one thigh on the seat before you come to a stop, you will have much firm footing than tip-toe between both feet.

Nice find. Y2K VFR should have black OEM wheels, but silver wheels looks just fine. I picked up my 00 VFR w/13k miles on odo back in 2016 under $3K, now it has over 19k miles, in need of new tires, chain/sprockets. Looks like the previous owner might have lowered the front end by pulling the fork legs up in the triple tree. High mount Staintune exhaust looks sharp, does it also have 98-99 headers?

This was taken back in 2005.. my previous VFR:

Put on some cheapo, lightweight mirrors, universal windshield from a previous bike.. 599 is sitting nicely among my other Hondas:
-
Yeah, wouldn't feel too bad if it gets damaged or stolen in the Big Apple, which is likely going to be the place I keep it. 599 will replace my 04 Ninja 250 that I sold earlier this year.
-
It's been nearly one year since my last moto purchase. Today, I bought a 04 Honda 599 for $1600, 15k mi. needs chain/sprockets/tires/front brake pads/lines:

I had a 98 VTR and a 03 VTR in the past.. 98 was a salvage, converted to naked with front mount radiator, rode it for about 6k miles and sold it for a decent profit: My 03 was a flood salvage, waterline was 3/4 way up the wheels. Changed the oil like 5 times, cleaned out the rest of the bike, Lowend torque of large displacement V-twin is very addictive. They have the largest set of carbs on production Hondas, as the RC51.. very thirsty... usually full tank of gas can barely get to triple digit miles if you ride aggressively.

My current Boxer is a 02 R1100S: With the age of the machine, I'm looking to replace the brake lines, when it comes time, also remove the Servo-assist ABS pump. My last Boxer Oilhead was also R1100S but a 99: My first Boxer was a 02 R1150RS and few others in between, transmission spline went kaput within 30k miles, clutch & transmission replaced under warranty and I sold the bike right away: I've never need to replace or refinish the valve covers, but they are the first point of contact when a Boxer takes a spill, them being magnesium alloy don't really make them the most durable when impact occurs. I think all the Boxers that I've owned are single-spark models. Engine vibes are more pronounced than others, but they are BMWs; I don't really expect them to be butter smooth other than the 3-cylinder K-bikes.

I picked up my 4th BMW Oilhead boxer last SEP.. low mileage, (under 18k), and low cost (under $2.8k). They are easy to work on and relatively reliable for their age. If you have servo-assit ABS, that system drains the battery at standstill while the engine is at idle. Extra drain on battery with Servo-assist usually cause battery to perform poorly in colder climate, especially if you like to use the heated grips like I do. I'm waiting for my Servo pumps to fail and remove all the ABS from the bike. BTW, get some engine guards on those cylinder covers.. Magnesium cylinder covers are more difficult to replace these days.. new ones from BMW cost upwards of $200 each. [url=https://www.ebay.com/itm/183104658325]Cheap $30 engine guard from China works wonders when you have a spill.. even at low speed.
