  1. That appears to be the stock headlight w/ some ungodly plastic thing on top of it. I like how the dude just left the rest of the fairings on *gag* I'm a huge fan of fighters, and turned my ninja 500 into a pretty sweet looking fighter before I sold it, but the side mounted radiators on the 5th/6th gen viffers makes it hard to give them the "fighter" treatment, cuz the bodywork covers a lot of pipes wires and guts. 3rd/4th gens look mighty tasty sans fairings tho... *EDIT* In looking at your profile, you have a 4th gen, which is a decent candidate. I recommend finding a bike wrecker in your area, and have a dig through their parts bin. You will probably come up on a cool old bucket headlight and some ears that will give you the naked look you seek.
  2. Looks like fun! I love seeing a bunch of Viffers parked together. Almost as good as a bunch of VFR's riding together :D What is the white beast in the middle? Its a very cool looking bike!
  3. Any news? Has your engine been abducted by aliens as an example of how far we have advanced technologically? The world waits breathlessly (Actually, I'm just curious as hell, this thing is gonna be a monster!)
  4. sa1713, I have not seen it discussed on this thread, and don't know if it is a possibility w/ the VFR, but have you given any thought to lightening the flyweel? Maybe lightening and re-balancing the cam drive gears? It would allow the motor to spin up much quicker/easier :laughing6-hehe:
  5. My Ninja had stainless lines front and rear, I bought the bike w/ them, and always loved the brakes (the fancy euro full floating front rotor I'm sure didn't hurt anything ). Well I guess I have a new project for myself, those lines have been sitting in a box for over a year now lol
  6. so does that mean you can run mixed SS and rubber lines in a linked set up with no ill effect? I have some stainless lines for the front, but its from a de-linked set-up, and me likey my linked brakes
  7. The article you posted explains the advantages of other types of front ends really well. I think that allowing prototype chassis w/ production motors at the GP level will do heaps for getting something other than forks onto motorcycles. As my Mech Engineering friend says "Telescoping forks are just an accident of history." That being said, I'm waiting for the RedMarque 5th Gen Hossack Kit :D Have you allowed room in your frame design for a Torocharger? :laughing6-hehe:
  8. No apology neccesary, I'm sure you're working on this in the limited spare time you possess! I'm just terribly impatient haha Prototypes!! :laughing6-hehe:
  9. Dave Dodge to the rescue :laughing6-hehe: I spoke to him this morning and he said he could do some cam work. He finished a 5th gen last year with very good results. That job included a 1 over bore and some other stuff... I've linked up with my EBD who will contact Dave direct and they'll do their engineering stuff. Great call Seb. Thank you. And he gets a hot cam?! :pissed: This thing is going to be a beast when its done! Can't wait to see the final product!
  10. Just dragging this post back from the dead, to see if Yoshi has made any progress (he types hopefully)?? Also, I figured out that 3/4 gen fork braces will not fit the 5th gen. The 5th gen tubes are roughly 1/2" wider in the triples. BOOO! But that means that Yoshi is now the man for the 98-01's!!
  11. I am now more convinced than ever that Larry's primary job on this board is to tittilate and frustrate those of us who don't have the tools and (far more importantly) the skills to build these sweet, lightweight race bits. Hey Larry, I have a 5th gen that will be stuck in Cali for a bit when I move to NYC. What if I parked it in your garage as a test bed for your modifications. You can sell what you've designed to the hungry folks here at VFRD, and I'll, uh, beta test the hell out of the proto-types, yeah, thats it, beta test... :D Freakin sweet as always dude!
  12. I have 4 vac hoses out back of my airbox, runs the starter valve (or at least thats where I hook up to balance the starter valve). I do have a Cali bike tho, so YMMV.
  13. D*mn. I suspected as such. d*mn...
  14. Hey Jaime, I just live over in Vista, we should go riding, or at least get a beer heh! I think its called Cafaros, it is out in Escondido, across from North County Cycle Salvage up above the Auto Park. He quoted my buddy $250 to fix and respray a couple pieces off his 4th gen, so I would suspect that a full respray w/ out any fixing would be about $500. He does work for Cycle Salvage occasionally and it looks really sharp!

    cool video

it didn't post up, try again!
  16. OK, I've been schooled, 8 valves per cylinder (and what wee lil valves they are ) But is that TWO con-rods per piston? In case, y'kno, the motor needs to pump crude oil from the bottom of the ocean?! And what about the pistons being oval in the first place?? EDIT: Slammer posted as I was typing heh. Good to see someone at least takes theirs outta the garage! Very cool bikes!
  17. Seriously, this isn't your sisters Elite! Ever heard of Honda Spray Polish, gents? So sweet, I've always wanted to take an NR around the block, they're just so funky! Is that production #4 I spotted on the crate? Crying shame they're going to sit in the showroom.... EDIT: What was the supposed advantage of the oval piston, other than it made it easier to cram 6 valves in each cylinder?

    Cascade Crest

The semi-rare Yellow 5th gen is seen here feeding on asphalt in its natural habitat... :D I used to live in that area, but never had a bike to ride in that time! Gorgeous place!
  19. They get really pissed when you bake cannons in the oven... I know a guy who makes a bunch of parts for ultra-lite aircraft. He anodizes his AL bits using coffee in his bathtub. I'll see if I can dig up his email addy, be might be able to help you seb
  20. So I know from this thread that F3 guts drop into 5gen tubes, and F4 guts drop into 6gen tubes, but will F4i guts drop into a 5th gen? I have the opportunity to get a set of cartridges off a smashed up f4i at my local junker Also, would getting the lowers off the F4 do me any good, or just cause me to have to swap out the brakes? The forks themselves are toast, but the lowers seem ok...
  21. Thats nothin' Toro, I had a local newspaper PRINT (like for real on paper) a photo of mine that I had shot for ANOTHER newspaper without contacting me or anything. I was lucky a co-worker spotted it, otherwise I would have never even known! The internet is such a communal place that people automatically think if its on the web, it must be free. I foolishly expected more from fellow journalists  Grinds my stones too! At least they thought your bike was sexy enough to clone?
  22. To ask what may seem like a newb question, what exactly gets welded when you weld the head? Does the head just get filled in, making it less of a dome (ergo more compression)?
  23. And, in the conventional position, an extra row for oil to sit & collect in? HAHAHAHA Seb, sometimes you just pull the words right from me. Bailey, thanks for the tip, seriously, I didn't know they upgraded the coolers on the Vtecs. But is getting more cooling out of the cooler simply a matter of flipping it 180 degrees?
  24. BLS, you snuck in and out of So-Cal w/out even giving the VFRD crew chance to drool over Mr. RC45! So Sad! Do any of those gents you met up with need an able bodied young man to sweep their shop, lift engines blocks, and glean all the excess knowledge from their brains? Too many sweet bikes to count... :fing02:
  25. So am I correct in believing that simply flipping the oil cooler over will up its function and help keep the engine a few ticks cooler? Anything I can do to keep that motor turning for a bajillion more miles :fing02: I've always wanted to go through a 5th gen motor the way you are! so sweet!!
