  1. That's what I was wondering... Ruined frame maybe? No it's fairly simple and stupid here in TN at the same time! Motorcycles are exempt form Salvage laws as are cars older than 10 years old, so here in TN a crashed bike either comes with a Good Title or a Non-repairable and there seems to be no rhyme or reason which one it gets. My 2000 VFR I bought had 200 miles on it when I bought it and for around $3000 total I brought it back to like new cond. but it had a Non-repairable title. I had to buy a titled frame and change it out 2 years later when I wanted to sell it. My 02 was about in the same cond. and had a Good Title! I've seen bikes with a few scratches at the Ins. Auctions have Non-Repairable titles and I've bought a blob of melted alloys that was once a Yamaha R6 and it had a Good Title, it just makes no sense whatsoever. But it is TN! I was asked just today how it is decided what has a salvage title and what has a good title, and I said the same thing : "No one knows" My 2000 was wrecked by the previous owner. Usual dodywork issues, broken collant bottle and a scratch on the id plate on the frame. Insurance totaled it and I bought it fir 1800 bucks with a normal title. 400 bucks later, it is as you may have seen it.
  2. I dont know if it wil help, but since I put on the 929 shock, I have a spare 5th generation shoc that anybody is welcome to have for their 4th gen. (i dont know if the 5th gen is any better than the 4th gen)
  3. yea, mine spun like the dickens when I first put on some preload. I just shoved a big screwdriver handle in there and twisted away.
  4. and..........the end reult......is..............FLAT BLACK gears are turning...................................
  5. I salute you, my Italian friend. now get back to work...............
  6. I hope you mend well with it. Needs a HRC Thrush sticker.
  7. havent done the front yet, I,m waiting for thermosman to steer me in the definitave direction (and help with parts). prolly going to do the F3 cartridge swap with some good springs and fresh oil (obviously) I am heavier than a honda test rider because those guys are about a buck o five wet and I am 220. Plus, who knows how old the spring was???
  8. just installed a 929 shock last night and it was a breeze. I used a thick axle spacer for my extension and it was 45mm, so I left it as it was. The only different things I have to add are: * the 929 spring really isnt stiff enough, but will do for now (as BR stated) I had to wind up the pre-load 4/5ths of the way up just to get a baseline. * I didnt have to trim anything on the undertray * looks like 45mm is the limit before the bottom eye touches the linkage * this is really the best modification for money/time vs results * I did weld the bolt to the bracket ( to ensure that everything remains concentric) the bike was instantly much better. Instantly familliar and confidence inspiring. sorta like when you take off trashed tyres and notice how good a new set feels, but times 10. I havent set the shock up yet becaused I had a team of mechanics tapping their toes, waiting on me to finish so they could close up the shop and go home.
  9. oh yea? I have re-installed it and it sounds great. If it wasnt 22 degrees here, I woulda painted it black.
  10. perhaps a little  but be careful with the remove/ replace of that unit. I learned the hard way that if you bend the little delicate lip on the pump opening in the tank, it will not seal until you return it to its exact shape. If you look at the rim, there is a very thin ridge or flange if you will that doesnt take much to bend out of shape. The only way to know if you got it right if it does become deformed is to install pump, put in gas, hold it up, and pray it doesnt leak down your sleeve. My body guy used this hole to use his hammer to bang out a dent in my tank and he bent that flange. took me 11 tries until I stumbled upon the shape that sealed. should have replaced the filter. I forgot. ok......carry on.
  11. One and all can sleep well tonight in whoville

  15. So after the ribbing I took in the Catskills, I went banana nuts crazy and washed my bike. Then I remembered talking about my loud exhaust that I took off. Then I installed the loud one and then took it off and then put on a third one, a D&D. Then I cut 6 inches off the D&D, but I didnt like where it was. So after consulting with the large pile of exhausts, hangers and mid pipes I came up with this. kinda reminds me of the first generation HRC exhaust. All made in 30 mins at a total cost of zero. It isnt any louder than my 2bros, because I left the packing in. My mother always said that they all are going to laugh at you. I never new that it would be for this. Enjoy. Feel free to ridicule. I'm painting it black soon.

  23. is this cobalt racing still active? I'd love to but a solo section, but thier web page looks ancient. Please advise.....
  24. fellow 700 owner here. Give us some photos please. And I want to talk to you about your sidecover-seat cowl arrangement.
  25. Yeah the upper fairing surrounding the tank, connecting to the side panels appears taped over. That section on a duc is the inner fairing and it is textured. On a duc it is also painted black and kinda blurs the line of inner-outter fairing.
