  1. Ok Lorne, you got me sucked into this topic. May 2006, my riding buddy Markus chatting it up as usual with another two-wheel enthusiast at about 4000 ft near Asheville on the BRP. 6th gens, my red and his silver. I've always really liked this photo.

  2. Beautiful memories. There's something about how bikes can link us back to memories of places we've been and trips taken. Ten years ago I was stranded on the dock at Cherbourg, France, because the ferry I was catching home to Ireland (an 18 hour overnighter) had a radar problem. Eventually we were allowed to board but I had to leave my VFR quayside. They were basically only allowing us on to give us all a place to sleep for the night. They attempted to empty us out the following morning with promises of other ferries but a few of us hung on and explained that we were entitled to do so under EU law. There was no guarantee that an "alternative sailing" would actually take us and once you've left the boat you're on your own. Eventually made friends with many of the staff, got a tour of the ship, saw the bridge, got the VFR onboard and got home a day late. The poor French lad I'd helped out through this, on a nice Kawasaki ER6, had a day robbed from his tour of Ireland because of it but I managed to get him a cabin so he was comfy (until he got to Ireland where it pissed rain..poor guy). Photo below of the VFR fully-loaded dockside. The two Beemer guys disappeared the morning the ferry was emptied, think they chanced the "alternative sailings" thing. Actually the Larry David lookalike there was riding a Honda Silverwing maxiscoot! One more edit - I'm sitting here now with my baby daughter asleep in my arms and am married to the woman who I was traveling back and forth to France for. We've our own little home, a lovely little dog, and a shed where I can work on/admire my two VFRs. If you'd told me that was gonna happen 10 years ago when that picture was taken I'd have been astounded. Life moves fast.

  3. Oh darn 😉 Love the photo, really does look like the top o'the world. And going back another 20 years - long before Soichiro Honda dreamed of his first VFR - here I am with my '72 BSA Rocket Three.

  4. When you open the slave cylinder bleeder valve, does the clutch lever move freely and smoothly fully to the handle bar? If so, and you are able to bleed the system in a normal fashion, wouldn't that mean the problem is within the Slave cylinder or further forward to the lifter rod, clutch plate etc.? Check the slave piston moves freely and check the lifter rod for any signs of binding, give it a good smear of grease.

  5. Hi All. Just wondering if any of our American friends have heard from or know if Danno is ok. He's been an active member and a helpful clever guy, he had a strong passion for VFRD. Since May 2023 there's been nothing! Total silence, bit out of character for Danno. Lives in Mesa AZ. His last post was..... "Would be shame to have site go away. I've PMed Miguel and volunteered to keep this site going. Would need some training and help to get up to speed."

  6. The tail section arrived today, indeed as nice as in the picture in the add Here next to the old one No cracks found on it, amazing! There is a slight difference between it, it's from a 89 bike, and the 86 one, a cut for the passenger cover are not there, guess the 88-89 cover is missing this slot? Well I guess I just take them of the passenger seat cover I have ....

  7. ABS Light!!! Looking at your bike photo again I don't see an ABS Pulser Ring on the R/H Brake disc! Are you sure It has ABS???? ECM is not capable of reporting a fault code in its current dead state! Ok good report. Just want to be clear, when you Switch Ignition ON you measure 12v at the FCR Black/White wires? If so that confirms the BAS and ESR are working. Fi Light not ON.....Suspect a bad Ground! The ECM provides a Ground path for the Fi Light then it turns the Ground Path OFF when all is OK after Fuel Prime. This is why the Fi Light should be fully ON if there was a power loss to the ECM as it cannot switch OFF the Ground path, OR No Fi Light if the Ground is actually missing. So it might be an idea to now check both Power and Grounds at the ECM, especially seeing you have good access to the ECM plugs. ECM.... There may be variations on pin/socket locations for different countries and models, but its the Colour Code of the wire that is important.... NOTE - Plug A is BLACK. Plug B is GRAY. Unplug these. - Locate the Black/White wire at the ECM (Main 12v ECM Power) Possibly at B11. With Ignition On probe the plug socket with this wire, Confirm you measure 12v. - Now to measure the three ECM Grounds. Ignition to OFF, switch you meter to the lowest Ohms Range or Buzzer mode. Again with the black meter clipped to Battery Negative terminal (not just frame.) Now probe the ECM Grounds and make sure you hear the Buzzer and you are seeing virtually ZERO Ohms continuity for each wire. You should find two Green/Pink wires possibly at B1 and B2 AND one Green wire possibly at B14. Fuel Pump ops... While you have the two ECM plugs disconnected it would be a good and safe time to test the Fuel Pump and verify a healthy 12v on the Black/White wire. And if you Do get the Jumpering wrong you won't blow the tits off the ECM! - Remove the FCR and Jumper One of the Black/White wires at the relay socket to the Brown wire (NOT THE BROWN/BLACK). - With Ignition to On Kill Switch to RUN the Fuel Pump should be running. Verifies Pump, Power and Ground is good. Make sure the Frame Ground point is clean and tight and major grounds are good. See attached drawing.

  10. Hi Styran. Good point you raise and I had exactly the same thought. The first thing I did was zoom in on his picture and noticed the BAS looked properly mounted and electrically connected. There could be a good chance the crash impact has internally damaged the BAS. He also stated - "All fuses are good and all connections have been checked as well." ! All will be revealed regards the BAS with the suggested voltage measurements.
