sunald
Hi all, I have a 1991 Honda VFR750f and I'm having a problem with it. The overall bike is in great condition but recently my bike will lose power when its been on the road for about an hour and completely dies. The bike then doesn't want to start unless I let it cool down for a while. I was thinking it was either the thermostat on the bike or faulty spark plugs from possible too much carbon build up. The plugs are new from the beginning of 2016 When the bike starts to quit, I have gas and the temp gauge doesn't show that its super hot. Could anyone help me solve this problem? thanks. Member Contributer COS_VFR Posted September 24, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted September 24, 2016 Have you checked to make sure that the filler cap vent is not clogged? If you can run it again until it loses power, then open the filler cap and see if it runs better before it cools down.
Member Contributer gmtech94 Posted September 24, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted September 24, 2016 Check the vent in the gas cap may be partially blocked and not allowing for fuel flow ,also pull a plug and see if it is dark black or tan colour . Member Contributer Cogswell Posted September 24, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted September 24, 2016 Is the battery and charging system in good shape? If it's not the tank vent that might be another thing to check.
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 24, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted September 24, 2016 Measure your stator output and the charge coming from the voltage regulator. As the stator heats up, bad ones go belly up... Search for "The Drill" which explains it all
Ascalon
After checking the fuel situation, I'd say this /|\ Had this on a bike years ago, as the stator windings were breaking down. Hard to diagnose in the pre-Internet days :)
keny
Should be in the 3rd/4th gen section....a 91 is not that old. But yes, starving for fuel or power (voltage) go down I would say to.
squirrelman
Two among the severAL components that may fail only when hot are the pulse generator coils and ignition coils.
