viffviff
My battery is feeling a bit weak after not riding for a while. I have a good (intelligent) charger with a 'bike' setting. Can a charge the battery on the bike safely without disconnecting the battery leads?

Member Contributer Mohawk Posted September 6, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted September 6, 2014 Yes, so long as you connect direct to the battery terminals & do NOT have the ignition on. With the ignition off there is NO electrical path to anything as the many relay is in the off position.

Member Contributer Olive Posted September 6, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted September 6, 2014 Of course - many people just attach a trickle charger to the bike when it is parked in the garage. You can even pick up a set of leads that are built to remain attached to the battery to plug in the charger. However, the BEST way to charge that battery is to give the bike an "Italian Tune-up" - take it out on the road for a decent ride. Both you and the bike will feel much better! viffviff
thanks guys. great advice. And will 'italian tune-up' the minute got enough juice to start!
VFR4Lee
Remember if it's an Italian tune up you should burn pasta, not rice. If everything is working right, it is the best way to charge your battery.
