I just bought this needs lots of "looks" love 86 VFR700F from a customer that is down on his luck all the way across the country on Long Island, he has been storing it here at my house in L.A. and can't go on without the check I just mailed him via USPS Priority Mail.

I scored it at a fair price for how the bike performs but, it does need a lot of cosmetic help.

Anyway, my VFR1200F now has a little sister stablemate.

Yes, a CBX! fantastic! It's one of my grail bikes as my dad had one in silver and it was also the first gen "full power" model with the th=win shocks. Maybe I'll own one too some day. The only thing I'd change on it would be the headlight which need to be bigger like the size on the big Suzukis around that time, and maybe some lower bars to get rid of some of the rise upf front and make it even sportier looking. Another nice old bike would be the 1st gen GL1000 (My dad had two of them one in yellow and the other a dark red), when it had more muscular looks than whale blubber style it gained through the years.....Lower bars for that one too!

Did you used to muck about on inline fours of approximately 1123cc?

yep, I believe you're right Jeff. Never forget an exhaust like that ;-)

Yes, it's that fasterspider and I still have an 1123 engine under the bench in my garage.

What's going on all the way down there on the other side of the world?

Not much excitement here. Working on a couple of VF1000R's to relieve the monotony of life.

Still have a collection of Boldor's and the scooter (CBR).

I rode my lil' Interceptor today to escort a buddy on a customer's R-1 that likes to lose all power when stopping the bike completely back to the motorcycle shop, I just love the exhaust note from my 86 VFR with that Kerker slip on.

It is official now with the bike registered and insured to me, I put a few miles on her yesterday and now comes the money spending refurbishment/restoration my wife says is not supposed to happen.

I just ordered new rear signal stays and need a good front fender as the existing fender is cracked, faded and very very ugly.

Going to adjust the valves this week, one can never be too sure of a valve lash until it is personally inspected.

What she don't know, won't hurt her in this case.

Does this clip on look bent to you? Good eye, it is bent in two dimensions and my knuckles kept hitting the tank during vury slow maneuvers.

So I bought a supposed to be NOS clip on from eBay and it is perfect except the bag was taped & stapled shut and I can see marks where the master cylinder was clipped on but, it is perfect every where else and on my bike now.

I had a similar experience 3 weeks ago. Bought a NOS right euro switch for my 84 VF1000R and when it arrived it was off something totally different and not in the Honda bag (instead of wire loom being around a metre long it was 35cm - totally no use). The seller, an eastern states business called Remarcables then tells me as far as he knew It was a 1000R switch and he did not do electrical returns. I will probably send it back to him anyway as it is no use to me.

Today I put a new rear signal stay on and when the other one finally shows up from being cross shipped, I will install it too.

The white 18 & 16 wheels are a drag to clean, I hate them and want some 17s for some good radials.

Ray, Avon make Azaro ST radials for the stock wheels, I have a set for my 85 1000R, not used them yet but all reports on the avon tyres are pretty positive.

I really like the colour combo on the VFR you have - I don't think we got that in Australia.

Here they are on my 1000R rims. The tyre on the rim at the back is a BT45.

There is a possibility, thank you.

I am faced with a major dilemma today, what bike do I ride, my CBX or my lil VFR?

I opened the valve covers today to adjust the valves and found a motorcycle engine's worst nightmare, orange sillycone RTV all around the valve cover gaskets and on the heads. No doubt I will find the oil pick up screen half clogged when I open the oil pan to inspect.

wow, so much for a little hondabond where the manual calls for it lol. that guy wasn't taking any chances. You seem to know what your doing but for the others, be sure to use something softer than aluminum to scrape off that mess.

The stuff actually just fell off with the tip of my gloved finger rubbing the stuff off and now the covers are soaking in Awesome to get them 100% oil free so I can have them stripped and then recoated a nice new shade of gold.

I am a vintage Honda motorcycle mechanic that usually works on old air cooled twins, I-4s & I-6s, working on liquid cooled bikes other than an old skool GL1000 or a CX500 is not my normal line of work but, a Honda is a Honda and I can do what needs doing as long as I can get my hands on the FSM, the proper Honda tools and plenty of time to gitrdun.

I suggest you replace the bolt rubbers (if you weren't already) as these compress to about half the thickness and cause sealing problems on the gasket face. The bolt seals are what puts the pressure on the gasket, just the same as on the very familiar, to you, bol'dors.
