low price 1200

After seeing these low prices for a new VFR, I have decided that I took it up the ass with a Redwood Tree 18 month ago when I got mine. The one thing that keeps me smiling however is that I've rolled up 18K miles of sheer bliss on this beautiful machine. She looks as new as the day I got her and still turns heads everywhere. I can't see this bike ever leaving my possession.

Everyone here is evil. Thank you for making me want to trade in my paid for bike. Man, some good deals out there. Unfortunately in CA the high cost of doing business adds too much overhead for dealers to blow them out at those prices. Plus our taxes and registration are high. Lowest price I've seen here is around 13,000 + taxes (7.75%) and registration. So under 10K is a smoking deal.

Quick search on Cycle Trader finds the cheapest VFR f with in 250 miles at 12,475, and it is used with almost 10,000 miles on it!

I picked up mine in Hunnington Beach for $12600.00 OTD and that was with the Honda extended warranty. Keep looking, when I was searching there were a couple up in Oregon, So HB Honda matched their price, and that was back in Aug.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just picked up my '10 last week. I almost pulled the trigger on a '12, but ultimately decided that for saving several thousands $$, I can live with the few "issues" of the '10.

As my dear wife said when I pulled up the driveway with this: "Oh no, here we go with the farkeling again..."

Congrats! Great bike!

It's 8ft long for kidnapping NBA stars, and moonlighting for Vampire escort service.

No, it's a quick and dirty way of carrying this folding aluminum loading ramp plus other stuff for track day. I've been meaning to reconfigure it so I can carry 2 bikes. Just haven't gotten to it.

Just curious what a good price is on these currently. I see some of you got steals. At 16k I wouldn't even consider one but I just found one where the stealer wants $9999.00 + freight/prep (which I've never paid for on any bike) + TTL. This is a bike labeled as a demo with 1100 miles on it, but they still give the 1 year warranty with purchase. Didn't know if this was a good deal on one. I called on it and told the guy $9999 with TTL and all fees and he might tempt me................

I paid about $9900 OTD for my 2010 in Oct of 2012. It was a demo model with 10 miles on it.

Just be careful with the demos... Apparently the warranty period starts when the bike is listed as a demo. I got my bike home before I realized that even though my bike only had 10 miles on it; the factory warranty had already expired.

I think you are thinking right. Don't be tempted to give in for any deal that you're not comfortable with.

When I bought my bike the dealer tried to dismiss the lower price of a 1200 that was located in Chicago, about 8 or 9 hours away. Thinking he had leverage, he wouldn't meet or beat their price. I told him, "I can get a one way plane ticket to Chicago for $69.00".

That helped.

I have seen new '10 (with a few miles) sold for as low as $9500 on ebay. Used ones don't seem to advertise for much less, but they are more negotiable in person. You can figure a grand or two less. There was a '12 with 400 miles advertised for $10,999 when I picked up my '10. Almost bought that, but I would have have to pay shipping or fly-in-drive-back.

Thanks guys. I'm a cheap bastard and I'll admit it. Maybe I'm not cheap per say, but I will drive a salesman batshit. I told the guy $10k OTD or $11k OTD w/the bags. He already told me they didn't have any bags so that means the prior. I told them that there are those of you getting demos for $10k OTD so that is what I want or no deal. If a dealer in another state can do it then they can too.

Really not in the market for one tight now but figured if they'll do exactly what I want I'll go ahead and get one for my 2nd bike. If not I can wait a year and hunt for a nice used one for $8-9k. Was looking at the Super Tenere's but they'll cost more than this discounted VFR12 price.

I think it depends on the dealer. There are at least 3 dealers here in town that have leftover '10 sitting on their showroom. They've been there for at least a couple of years, probably longer. They just won't deal - or can't. I don't know. I tried several times to work with them on a deal. I was even willing to pay a few hundred bucks more to buy local. The best I got was $12k +TTL. They might possibly go a bit lower if I drove the deal further, but I know it would never come close to beating out of state, so I didn't waste their time.

If you are not in a hurry, just keep a close eye on CL, ebay, etc. One will turn up sooner or later.

My experience was quite the opposite... I've wanted a VFR1200 for quite a while. The dealer in town had a used one for a decent price (about 10.5k with about 2k miles). By the time I talked my SO into possibly letting me sell my 2 bikes and buy this VFR, the VFR sold. So I went onto Cycletrader to find another VFR1200 to at least test ride to see how much effort I want to put into finding another good deal. I found a VFR1200 online listed for about 14k new at a dealer 50 miles away. I call them up and they say a test ride would be no problem. SWEET!

So I show up at the dealer, circle the floor and the VFR isn't there. I talk to the sales rep apparently the bike hasn't had much interest so they moved it out to the warehouse with the other duds (his words, not mine) to make room for new stuff (snowmobiles since winter was coming). He sends someone to the warehouse out back and starts talking numbers (price). Not wanting to be rude, I stood there and nodded my head, until I heard him say "we don't have room for it, and we are just paying interest on it, so we would like to get rid of it". He had my attention. He said I could have it OTD for $9500. No haggling, no nothing.

I ended up spending an extra $400 to make the deal. Apparently the sales guy tried to work the $2k Honda bucks into the cost of the bike and Honda didn't approve... In the end, it was still a hell of an unexpected deal.

When to view said bike last night and it had cosmetic damage (scratches, rubbed off paint, etc). Stealer wouldn't budge an inch. About $11.2k OTD with 1100 demo miles on it. I asked for said parts to be fixed, or severely discount the price further as scratches and blemishes would be some $$.

Stealer called back today and stated they would swap parts from another brand new '10 to make the deal. Himming and hawing at work over this. Checked cycle trader and ebay, the demos for cheap are about all dried up. Decisions, decisions.

Here's an ad in Wichita... don't know if you're willing to fly/ride, but looks good.

There's also one for sale on the floor of another dealer in Wichita, KS. It's NOT a demo. Their price, last time I was in their showroom, was really high. They seemed like they weren't willing to take the hit on their sales to clear it off the floor. The guy that owns the shop didn't even bother to order a singe 2012 model. Who knows... song may have changed by now.

Probably not the best you can do, but not exactly a bad deal either. IF they won't budge on price, try to see if they would throw in some OEM accessories for free - at at least for cheap. Make sure to check what the in-service date on that bike. How much warranty period you have left also affects the price. Some "demos" might have less than 1yr - or worse, none - left on the factory warranty. 1100 is a lot of demo miles. This may have been an unregistered used bike. Nothing wrong with that if the bike is in good condition. Make sure you know exactly what you are buying, so you know how it price it accordingly.

There are some good deals out there but you still have to be cautious.

Case in point: This dealership had a "new" 2010 VFR1200F and a (definitely) new 2012 VFR1200F. There was something about the 2010 that told me it wasn't new but I didn't say anything. The right red fairing had a scratch on it and the right silver fairing had a nick on it. The plastic piece that covers the right crankcase cover was also falling off. The bike had a little less than 200 miles on it. I was assured it was new and that's how they tried selling it to me (complete with $450 or so in freight and $300 or so in setup fees; neither of which are tacked onto the sale of a pre-owned bike.) I didn't want to come across as an a$$ by accusing them of sellling a pre-owned bike as a new bike. Instead, I tried talking them into lowering the price $1k (which, in my opinion, was fair for a pre-owned 2010 VFR1200F with 200 miles.) They wouldn't budge. Two weeks later, on this same dealer's web site, guess which bike shows up in the pre-owned inventory section of their web site? You guessed it: the exact same bike they had tried selling me as new. And guess what? They were now asking $1k less for it.

You haven't heard everything. I really wanted the 2012 and they told me they'd sell it to me for $13k. Although that's not the best price I've seen on a 2012, it was still reasonable. I told him $13k was more than I wanted to spend and that I'd think about it. I then went over to the service department to talk to some one. While I was talking to that person, the same sales guy walks over and tries selling me the 2012 again. I told him that unless I could get at least a couple grand for my bike, I couldn't do it. He said to hold on because he wanted to talk to his sales manager. The sales guy comes back a few minutes later and says they'll give me $2k for my bike. I said out loud: "$13k for the bike less $2k for mine now puts us at $11k. I might be willing to do that but I'd still like to think about it." You are absolutely not going to believe his reply: No, it doesn't work that way. If I give you $2k for your bike, the price of the 2012 is $15k.

Can you believe this???!!! As usual, it never ceases to amaze me the number of people that clearly seem to think I was born yesterday.

LOL wow!

There is a dealer up here in Ontario that has a 2010 in the crate asking $11k, that does not seem too bad.

If looking at pre-owned VFR1200F's, something to keep in mind is the mileage. Something I kept noticing on Cycle Trader, eBay, etc. is that VFR1200F's with 13k-14k miles on the odometer were consistently selling for about $700-$800 less than comparable VFR1200F's with, say, 3k-4k miles. I couldn't figure out why until it dawned on me to look at the maintenance schedule. I found my answer.

The 16k service on the VFR1200F runs $700-$800 (I called several dealerships and that's the range I was given.) My guess is a number of VFR1200F owners were trading their bike in before the odometer hit 16k. Anyhow, dealerships were apparently smart enough to know nobody would pay the same amount for a VFR1200F that was close to 16k miles than one that wasn't near that mark (and so they lowered the price accordingly.) That's my guess.

The good news is 1) a number of VFRs on this forum have reached 100k miles and are still running strong (and so 13k-14k miles is nothing) and 2) if you're gonna finance the bike, you can ask the dealership to add the cost of the 16k service into the contract (they'll probably be glad to oblige.)

What's included in the 16k service? Hopefully not valve adjustments... Sent from my SAMSUNG Galaxy SIII using Tapatalk 2

The valves need to be adjusted every 16k miles. This is the primary reason the maintenance required at 16k intervals is expensive.

btw, what are the general experience with valve clearance check at 16k? Do a lot of them need adjustment?

I know on some other Sport Tourers (C14 for example), owners are reporting needing very few adjustments, if any, so a lot of owners are opting to skip the first valve adjustment interval and do it at the second. The VFR's valvetrains are a bit unconventional, so I dunno.

On Hondas, volfy, that is a 50/50 shot. They need to be inspected at 16k...I certainly wouldn't skip doing it. But, if the bike hasn't been absolutely flogged 100% of the time (normal riding) chances are you'll make it to 32k before needing to shim them.

New to the forum. Just purchased new (0 miles) 2012 VFR 1200 for $10,999 plus shipping costs from PA. Mad the decision in part because the bike fits me well and because of the many positive comments on this forum.

Congratulations! Welcome to VFRD!

Oh, and be sure to post a pic when you get it on the official welcome thread. :goofy: Photos or it didn't happen!
