Modifications For My 04 Vfr

I thought I would share my modifications to my 04 VFR with you guys. The VFR is my 6th bike and I have never modified any other bike so extensively before. I already had a Scottoiler kit, 1 tooth smaller front sprocket, Bike Design fairing protectors and Zero Gravity double bubble windshield before adding the items listed below:

* BOS GP1 Slip-ons

* RapidBike Module

* K&N Air Filter

* Hyper-Pro Shock with full adjustability including high and low speed compression and progressive spring

* Hyperpro progressive front springs & 7,5W fork oil

* Racetech Gold Valve (compression)

I have not been able to ride the bike much after the modifications but the differences are already obvious. Low speed throttle response is much impoved and smoother and the sound of the BOS slip-ons is just gorgeous. The map for the RapidBike module was created for the K&N air filter and the BOS slip-ons without the decibel killers so I was afraid that it would be too loud and obnoxious but nothing can be farther away from the truth. It is a great sound and it doesn't bother anyone even in underground garages. I chose BOS because I feel that their shape flatters the lines of the bike much better than other makes. They look quite similar to the stock cans which I think look quite good.

You can also tell the difference in handling as the bike is much more stable under braking and acceleration. It gives me much more confidence going into corners. I have adjusted the sag on both ends and even though the settings are quite firm, the bike is quite comfortable. The sharp edged bumps are certainly noticed but do not upset the bike or me one bit.

I have added a few pictures for you to check, I hope you like them.

I plan to do the O2 sensor eliminator modification soon. I am also thinking about getting Pazzo levers or something similar in near future. And when Toro comes up with the 6th gen. SC kit, I'll be definitely in line :laugh:

Looks very good, money well spent on the suspension, and the pipes look great too.

Hoe much were your racetech valves? I'm about to drop some moola on some Ohlins ones for my SP2 front on the Frankenviffer.

AB-Oz, I paid 126 EUR for the Racetech Gold Valves. Do you mean that you are going to install them in your Öhlins forks? I am a bit surprised, I just didn't think that Öhlins would need such improvements but I guess you can improve anything huh?

vfr-steve, I thought I was the only one with BOS GP1s in this forum, guess I was wrong. However I am almost 100% sure that I am the only one in Turkey. Most VFRs have either LeoVinces or Lasers installed here. Have you done the O2 sensor eliminator thing?

I haven't seen many with the BOS system either... in fact thinking about it, most VFR's I do see just have the standard pipes as I'm betting it's pretty expensive. Mine was already fitted when I bought the bike and it's one of the main reason I bought it - still makes me grin from ear to ear a year later :laugh:

I've got the 02 elminators on my bike with no PC and I find she works beautifully with smooth power without any hiccups. I can't imagine anyone having the 02 oxygen sensors plugged in as it makes the bike feel terrible.

What's a rapidbike module? Same thing as a Power Commander?

Yes, it is the equivalent of a Power Commander module. Mine is a RapidBike 3 Module, which has the possibility of on-the-fly change between two seperate maps. The link is below:

No, they are not. AS of yet you can't adjust ignition on a VFR. Unless you get an old Power Commander II.

Here is the sound of the BOS slipons. I will try to make a better video next time, the engine was cold, so I could not bring myself to twist the throttle too much, sorry guys. By the way, the db-killers are removed...

As far as ignition adjustability goes, the web site (for Rapidbike) states that Rapidbike3 is capable of ignition adjustment...

I actually just removed my O2 Eliminators, as they created a bit of a hesitation at 4500-6K RPM...just a titch but it bugged me, and i found no other benefit from them either.

Another video clip, this time a little better, though I was hoping for a better sound quality this time. Unfortunately it was not to be, especially evident where I do a constant throttle pass for the benefit of the camera and it is barely audiable with a lot of A/C sound ricocheting from the highrises disguising the bike's sound. May be it also shows that BOSs are not obnoxious.

This is the car park for our office building and it is being demolished now so it was a fitting end. The surface is quite dusty and has a fair bit of gravel in places so I couldn't gas it too much. Anyway, here it goes:

I haven't actually. I still have the O2 eliminators in place and the map I am using came installed with the module. I don't know whether this map has advanced the ignition or not. I inquired about the O2 eliminators by the way (Rapidbike also has these), the reply was that I would need to remap the module using a dyno, the current map could not be used. I don't have access to a dyno so I put it off for now...
