Guest ROUSE
http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/News/new...or-motorcycles/ its not set in stone yet but there will be a day when the whole world has to deal with this kind of stuff. probably even be a time when you are required to retrofit this GPS tech. to your older bikes. The new Nissan GT-R in japan has this tech. but they have the limit set around 115ish mph and not just a few mph over the current limit of that road. and when you enter the property of a race track the GPS unit turns off the limiter. Big Brother has his eyes on you!
Guest
I doubt that they would make you refit them to your older bikes, that would be very stupid, especially for carb bikes, although I guess they could cut the ignition. Most older cars are not required to have emission equipment or even seat belts if they did not originally come with them. If they are going to put a limiter on our bikes, then I guess they better put a limiter on all the Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, Aston Martins, etc. they sell as well, because god only knows I can't be trusted to operate my own vehicle safely. The government needs to do it for me. The socialists won't be happy until we are the USSR of America. end rant.
Member Contributer backonabike Posted September 20, 2008 Member Contributer Share Posted September 20, 2008 If they make me put this on my bike I will Ghost Ride it through the state house. What is the point of having the bike if you have to deal with this. Also I could never see buying an $80k uber performance car that I could run down with my SUV on the highway. Between what has happened to the economy, the wars, and stuff like this I'm beginning to think it's "TEA IN THE WATER TIME". And yes I do have anger management issues... So what? First off this is MCN of the UK so its not the USA tis the UK where they already have survellience cameras everywhere. Second its MCN not a trust worthy publication in my book, just read the 7th gen forum and chronical the BS computer generated fake 7th gen "new hondas" they have misinformed us about for the past 5 years. Third it would take all of an hour to unhook that crap and opps I dont know how that broke?!!!

Baileyrock
I remember a few years back when a US Rental Car Company started billing rental customers extra charges every time the on-board GPS showed they were speeding! Thank god the courts tosses it out, so far!

Guest
Never say never. I hope it'll never happen to us here in the US. It sounds like what the commies would do, and with the way our government's been acting lately, we are looking more and more like a communist state. Lee 2002
It would be very easy to disable. Find the GPS reciever antenna and cover it with lead foil or some other radio impervious material.. Actually, as any aircraft owner will tell you... paint over the antenna will usually do a pretty good job of keeping the antenna from working properly. You may be giving up your on-board navigation in the process but that would be easily replaced with a stand alone unit. Surely they don't disable the vehicle just because it isn't recieving a GPS signal... if that is the case the vehicle could die in a really good thunderstorm of driving through a dense forest. VFR4Lee
From what I've read, most newer cars already have a tattle tale black box (similar to a plane) that the insurance company and cops will want to see if you crash. :fing02:

Yeah, right. Oregon looks at taxing mileage instead of gasoline. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090103/ap_on_...z9SsL.VMglI2ocA Face it, eventually you'll be tracked and taxed on where you go, when you go, what you go on and how fast you get there. And they'll be customizing advertisements to wirelessly broadcast in to your helmet visor and earphones based on that info. Welcome to the matrix.

Welcome to the matrix. They're trying to do something about us spending less on gas, and them thereby getting less money for road upkeep. I don't know about Oregon, but I don't think the gas tax is going to be an issue here in Texas for a while. Still a LOT of trucks on the road, and the roads are in as good of shape as ever. As for the speed limiter thing. It might make it in the future, as may speed cameras (but wouldn't the gps make the cameras useless??) but I don't think it'll happen any time soon. The Brits are getting screwed on civil liberties as is, so it wouldn't surprise me a bit if this tech was implemented over there.
