Making checking diagnostic codes a bit easier.

FWIW - I did this simple mod today to make it easier to check codes in future.  Just means codes can be checked without needing to remove rear fairing.

Nice install. Just wondering, is the push button switch a momentary make or a latching push On push Off type? Have you tried it out for recalling any historical codes and clearing the memory? Did the switch come standard with the matching connector to suit to bike Diagnostic connector? Got a part number for the switch assembly?

Hi. It's a latching switch. I needed one recently when I installed some running lights and they came as a pack of ten. Cheap but seems good enough to be more than splashproof enough.

I may add some adhesive heatshrink around the switch body as I don't know how sealed that is. Is described as a splashproof switch, but is intended for panel installation so it may only be splashproof from the top. That said, the standard connector is left with open terminals so ...

I did not generate a fault code to test, but tested by "jumping" the connector using the switch and then putting ignition to on. The FI light came on and stayed on which is what it does to indicate "no codes".

I also tested the switch with a multimeter before install. If a paperclip can work, you don't need anything very fancy 😀.

I happened to have the connector as I bought some indicator connectors a while back and picked one of these up from the same supplier at the time. That's kojaycat in the UK. There is a place I found in the US as well which does some of these OE Honda connectors but I'll have to search again to find. Will try to post. Sorry, don't know if there's a similar supplier in Oz.

Ok, found the "US" supplier. It's actually a Canadian guy living in Japan. I think this "may" be the connector, but you'd need to check.

Kojaycat in the UK lists them as Honda suitable connectors and even does different colours.

Forgot to say that switches can be found on all the usual purveyors of Chinese stuff. E.g.

https://www.amazon.com.au/HonsCreat-Button-Waterproof-Switches-Motorcycle/dp/B07JJNBHCD

The wire tails on these are long enough to go straight into the connector without needing to extend the wires and the gauge fits the terminals.

You'll need to be able to crimp uninsulated terminals. I have specialist crimping tools for other types but found my "normal" crimping tool had gone walkies.

I was able to achieve a good crimp using small needle nose pliers and a very basic (rubbish) crimping tool. Not recommended, but doable in a pinch with care and a bit of experience.

The creativity / enginuity we see on the forum never ceases to amaze me.  That's a simple,  elegant solution to ease fault diagnosis.  Thanks for sharing.

Thanks - I had to check my codes the other day for the first time after doing a ton of work on the bike over many moons. This has made things a bit easier.

Those particular connectors are very easy to find.  (Aka "Hitachi".)  You can get them in assortments, too: https://www.polo-motorrad.com/de-de/hi-q-tools-elektrikstecker-set-eckig-108-teilig-60130000681.html

Another good US source I've used before:  https://cycleterminal.com/

I use Kojaycat a lot; Eastern Beaver for more "challenging" connectors.

Ciao,
