Posting an invitation to the Spring Memorial PRE-Ride: It will be just like last year with a slightly different route, maybe without the section of the 'SE' Sand and Gravel Tour . For those who wish to take part; am publishing the Rev.1 itinerary which is for 3-days of overnight Sport-touring riding before the main event on Thursday. Rev.1 Itinerary attached for your reading, pondering and route change suggestions. It's just a shade over 1MB in pdf form this year. Rather than the clunky 12MB docx file of previous years. Please have a look over the proposed itinerary and lemme' know whatchya' think, whatchya' like, whatchya' wanna' change, whya' never liked this idea in the first place, ...whatever. Thinking of starting on Monday which will get us back on Wed evening to Franklin this time. All comments, road recommendations, likes and dislikes are welcomed and will be filtered and maybe answered in a very un-timely manner - based on how I feel that day. We'll sort it all through the very fair method of a disinterested third party (likely me. After several days to consider) and will publish Rev.2 that will become THE itinerary after interest and comments die down. With over 3 months to go considering out attention spans should be able to finalize Rev.2 well before the Spring Ride to get hotels sorted for the participants. Let the comments begin... Cheers! Hello to all! This year we will be returning to the Microtel in Franklin NC for the 1st Spring Memorial Ride. (Formerly known as the Texasmac Memorial Ride) The dates are May 18-21 2017. Rates are as follows Thursday 75$, Friday and Saturday 85$, and Sunday 69$. Please note that unlike previous years, the hotel will not be holding a set number of rooms. As of this week there were 41 available. In order to get the special rate please make sure you identify yourself as a VFRD member! THE CUT OFF IS APRIL 19th! All I've worked out so far is the hotel. Please keep checking back as I do intend to set up an Eventbrite registration in order to allow folks to register and pay for shirts, food, and beer. Hope to see you all there!! -PRB

Post up your favorite quotes from TexasMac 2015; One of mine is an exchange between Donna and Kimbal at the end of a run across the Cherohala... Before the ride across Kimball says "we are taking it easy today, I'm thinking we do a 60 mph run across." Once landed on the other side Donna replies "I see 80 is the new 60."

Tried this before and scored a good mix of Duck Rabbit. Lots of craft brew is regional and sometimes hard to find. So if there are any beer advocates looking for something or just want to try, post up what's regional to you and what you might be looking for. Regional for Cleveland: Great Lakes (bottles or growlers) Ommegang Southern Tier Hoppin' Frog Fatheads Founders Market Garden (growlers only) Thirsty Dog Goose Island Not regional, but Stone, Dogfish Head, and a decent selection of Belgians are usually available. Looking for Buffalo Bill Duck Rabbit 3 Floyds Russian River Three Heads

I figured we should keep this conversion on its own thread. So, if any of you are willing to share a room or looking for somebody to board with, this thread would be the place for it. I already have my room booked with checking in on the 28th Thursday and checking out on the 31st Sunday. Is there any brave soul who dares to room with me? Oyama

Here are some basics ride guidlines for everyone attending the TexasMac. 1. Read and use "The PACE". This is the type of riding we expect at the Tmac. Hanging off is OK(mostly faster groups). (from Sebs recent post) The pace is posted here 2. Every rider should start with a FULL Tank of Gas. Fill up prior to showing up to the Ride Meeting/ breakfast Friday & Saturday mornings! Not gas up afterward its best to gas up at the end of the day then you dont have to worry about it in the morning! 3. Top off your fuel at every fuel stop No matter if it's only a gallon or two everyone! Stops are based on the group needs and distance between fuel stops, having to make an extra stop because some clown doesn't follow the guidelines is a very Bad thing. 4. Never pull off/ turn around/leave your group without telling someone. Signal somebody in your group what you are doing and why! Each group should never loose a member for any reason, communicate your needs and make sure your entire group stays together. 5. Do Not tail-gate other riders, there are thousands of blind turns in this area and the last thing we need is to have a rider make a great panic stop to avoid something only to be run over by the rider behind him! Leave a safe margin, but do not lag to far behind either. 6. When passing a car try not to piss them off or scare them , there are many of our friends also needing to pass this cage. Please try to respect everyone else out on the road, our sport depends on it. There will always be the one crazy cage driver, be careful and get around/away from them as quickly as possible. 7. Passing: Do NOT go just because the rider in front of you goes!!! size up every pass yourself for how much open road you can see, how much time you have, how much distance is availible to pass, do it safely and quickly. Dont make a pass that would be considered "close"!!! Passing cages will most likely be the most dangerous part of our event, please be cautious. It is not a race to pass cagers! 8. Pegs up at 9:00 am both days, please be fueled up, fed and be there early enough to get assigned to a ride group before 9am. 9. Never cross the centerline except to pass. If you have to cross/cut corners to maintain your pace, you are going faster than your skill level. If you can't stay in your lane your riding over your head! SLOW Down!!! Staying right of the line adds a significant challenge to most roads and is mandatory for sport riding's future. Don't crowd the centerline Always expect an oncoming car with two wheels in your lane. Maybe more to come.
