  1. Very cool! Always thought those were the inspiration for the SV650.
  2. I've had that BBQ before. It doesn't taste very good. The last one when I removed the carcass the wires just fell off.
  3. Never seen those heel protectors before. Spacing the stock passenger peg mounts out with washers or shims is the way, but they can still rub on the rear bodywork. They wiggle quite a bit on bumpy roads. If you try to make them too rigid you will start breaking subframe mounts. Lining them up with the bodywork is a never ending quest. Best to leave all the mounts slightly loose when mounting then tweak, and tighten. Granted I've loaded them pretty heavy, and ridden hard on less than smooth roads. YMMV.
  4. She looks good! If you have any questions about installing the Beetle Bags let me know. The mounts are kinda cheesy. I've had to repair 3 of mine, but then I like bumpy goat trails.
  5. Take a heat gun with you the next time you do a long ride on a warm day. You might be surprised.
  6. Read that again. It's the subframe that gets hot enough to burn your hand. I don't want that heat soaking into the R/R. I know the fan is probably overkill, but I had it laying around so why not? It can't hurt.
  7. I disagree with mounting against the subframe. The subframe on these bikes gets extremely hot due to heat sink from the engine. Like burn your hand hot on a warm day of riding. I space the R/R away from the frame, and put a little axial fan on the front to give it some airflow.
  8. Thanks for the status report. Looks like things are going well. Going to be moving again next couple of weeks. 33 is still closed, and most of the other roads around here have work ongoing so take your time. I'll enjoy a few Belgians in your honor.
  9. I could feel this coming. Thank you so much Miguel for keeping this place going as long as you did. No regrets, no worries. The end of an era. When my 2 '99's are worn out I will likely be too. They may even outlast me. Thanks again, and enjoy.
  10. FAFO huh? Looking forward to riding with you again so don't screw up anymore OK?
  11. I've experienced more than one stator failure, and they've all happened during high temps/low speed operation. Heat is enemy #1. Don't let the rain fool you. Temp was mid 90's here.
  12. Did you test the stator at operating temperature? They can test OK cold, but fail hot.
  13. When a stator dies it causes excess current in the system. If not caught right away it will likely cook the R/R. This is why you want a voltage monitor of some kind. The battery may or may not survive depending on it's type, and condition.
  14. You can count on the gov to make the simple complicated every time.....
  15. Maybe by the time you're ready to ride again my road (yes I consider 33 to be my road) will be fixed. If not I would enjoy hitting some south OC/San Diego roads for sure. Been too long since I've been down there. Good to see you're on the mend. Kris sends her regards.
  16. Just glad you're still here, and can make jokes about it.
  17. Hey there.... MBrane's companion here (aka viffergyrl aka Kris). Holy moly! What an adventure! But ya know.... chicks dig scars. Heal up quick!! (We met your wife that one day we visited - remember us to her. We are truly grateful for her.)
  18. Damn that's a helluva shiner ya got there! Funny how quick things can go sideways sometimes. Here's to a speedy, and complete recovery!
  19. There are treads here that describe what needs to be done, but the bottom line is just removing the PAIR, and evaporative BS that just adds needless complexity, and weight.
  20. https://roadstercycle.com/#SH847_SERIES_RR_KITS_ARE_NOW_AVAILABLE_ I have these on both my '99s along with the voltage monitors. It separates the charging system from the puny factory harness. Both bikes have factory stators that were replaced several years ago when you could still get them. I would order one up for yourself, and just keep it handy for when yours eventually dies. Suspension is the best mod you can make to almost any bike. Both my '99s have Traxxion fork internals/caps, and Penske 8987 shocks. Both my '99s have been de-emissioned. Not because it really does much for performance it just makes it so much easier to do regular maintenance.
  21. Hi MBrane, Thank you for your donation of 100.00 USD. We look forward to improving the forums with your donation. Thanks VFRDiscussion
  22. See the previous post. Unless your exhaust reaches welding temperatures it'll be fine. Mine are getting that golden hue as well, but no signs of rust. The pipes on our rotary powered race car are a different story, but then the exhaust temperature is over 1000℉ for hours at a time.
  23. That's awesome, but I didn't bother since it wouldn't look like that for long on my bikes.
