czargee
Going to replace my stator on my 2002 non-ABS VFR800 and couldn't find a gasket online. Can someone point me in the right direction, please?
Member Contributer Cogswell Posted October 3, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted October 3, 2015 Shouldn't be much of a problem - I got mine from ProCaliber in Longview, WA. They usually beat Partzilla (including this case) on price and have free shipping on orders over $99. http://www.procaliber.com/oemparts/a/hon/5053f558f870021c54be7a9d/alternator http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/Motorcycle/2002/VFR800+AC/ALTERNATOR/parts.html TIghtwad also has 'em on his 'wiremybike' site if you're buying anything electrical. Member Contributer Switchblade Posted October 3, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted October 3, 2015 Gasket not a problem, it's the stator the problem. You have to convert it to the 03 or newer.
Member Contributer Cogswell Posted October 3, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted October 3, 2015 IIRC that also includes the flywheel . . .

signal
Gasket not a problem, it's the stator the problem. You have to convert it to the 03 or newer. Does the stator really need to be converted? Post-recall, Honda has the stator for '02 (and '03 for up to certain engine builds), which is the D02 part. I would assume this part does not have issues, just like the D03......? spud786
The 02 model originally had a different flywheel, you have to ensure that you have the newest flywheel to work with the latest stators.
signal
OK, so I have the 2003 model which is an engine serial block that requires the D02 stator. Are you saying if I order a new flywheel and D03 stator that will work? If so then let me know I just ordered a D02 stator to have as a backup but would rather have the latest stuff! Whats confusing is that when you look at the parts diagram of a 2003: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/Motorcycle/2003/VFR800+AC/ALTERNATOR/parts.html It shows just one flywheel 31110-MCW-D02 But it shows two stators: 31120-MCW-D03 or 31120-MCW-D02 for engines up to serial 2503808 I have an engine prior to 2503808, so that's why I ordered the D02 stator, but it doesn't seem the flywheel has any different part #. I think the 2003 situation with the alternator is a bit different than 2002 no?
signal
Just a followup. I called Partzilla. D03 now supersedes D02. For 2003 bikes no flywheel change is needed according to Partzilla tech support, they have made D03 now to work with any of the 2003 serial numbers.........will update when parts arrive if I find differently.
