Vf Oil Mod Question

I am looking to fit a louder claxon to my bike over the weekend and just noted a difference between Keny's and my VF500F2.

I recall seeing that on Keny's bike the claxon was fitted inside a white horizontal panel.

Mine doesnot have that; nor is is on the parts fiches (which are for the US models with top half fairing).

So I am wondering that that horizontal panel on Keny's also serves to guide/direct the airflow towards the radiator?

Like the 4th gen has this black plastic panel underneath the headlights.

No panel here....

Using an ebay IR-thermometer, I have measured the temperature of the black oil filter and engine. Once after a ride and once after a bit more sane ride...

Measurement was taken a few minutes after returning home with the engine off

I measured some 105C after the ride with high and prolonged revving

After the ride in the fashion I usually ride, 95Celcius

The rear cilinders (measured just under the silver heads; the meter wants black surface) I got some 108celcius

in your picture I see the plastic panel around/over the claxon. Yours sounded less strong,

I suspect my PO fitted a different one.

Begs the question what the purpose/benefit of this little panel is....

to stop sound bouncing back up?

It's a wind deflector, goes with the ones on the side of the fairly to increase the air pressure to the rad. The VF500 is effectively a factory overbored VF400. But runs a similar sized rad as no room for more, so they added the wind deflectors to increase air through the rad. I removed the side ones & fitted a rounded infill to the fairing edge & fitted an air horn to the rear fender & taped over the original horn hole. Worked fine no over heating but the weather is never that hot in the UK. YMMV
