Member Contributer Dutchy Posted February 16, 2018 Author Member Contributer Share Posted February 16, 2018 Checked the fiche and as expected, the seal is not a separate part..... (I have a set if #4 in the drawing, but that is not where it leaks from. It leaks from "the heart". The assembly above #6.)
jeremyr62
Not happened to mine, yet. As you know they are possibly the rarest part to find on Ebay along with petrol tanks and OE silencers. I reckon you will have to try to dissemble it by drilling out the rivets and hope you can find a suitable internal seal. I am pretty sure I saw a thread somewhere else for something similar. Must be info out there. You can't be the first.

jeremyr62
Oh yeah. I had a link to NRP already in my bookmarks. Getting old is no fun.
Member Contributer JZH Posted February 17, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted February 17, 2018 Just an FYI, but the RC36 petrol tap is even simpler than that, and is easier to rebuild, because it uses (or can use) standard o-rings, although the special seal on yours is widely available from NRP and elsewhere. Member Contributer JZH Posted March 1, 2018 Member Contributer Share Posted March 1, 2018 Ko-ken...good Japanese brand, that. They used to make the only 13mm spark plug socket available (for the NC30/NR750 mini-plugs). Looking good. No, great! Ciao,

Member Contributer Dutchy Posted March 4, 2018 Author Member Contributer Share Posted March 4, 2018 Fuel in the tank. No more leaking and the new vaccuum membrane does what it is supposed to do. (the oem one did naff all...)
jeremyr62
My petcock (same vintage as yours) has been pretty reliable so far. Even the vacuum shut off has worked to date. Only a matter of time though. That tank has a long way to fall off those bins.. When i nearly destroyed my tank I started looking on Ebay for a decent RWB spare. I didn't see anything remotely decent for over 12 months and then with about 2 months three decent tanks turned up (one had a custom paint scheme). A RWB is still on Ebay located in Germany. I ended up getting one from the US so if I have another brain fade moment and damage the tank again, at least I wont have to sell another kidney to get it repaired. Member Contributer Dutchy Posted March 4, 2018 Author Member Contributer Share Posted March 4, 2018 1st ride of the season Yes that is ice out there... I drove off very slowly to the main road and once on it, opened up. Only for the engine/gearbox to protest heavily. Tried shifting down but no, it felt like the gearbox was jammed..... Not matter what I tried, could not shift down so pulled over.... Ahhhh...................... GP Shift!!!!!!! The shift arm needs to point UP!!! Duhhhhh

Tyy
What sort of treatment do you guys give your gas tanks? I ought to clean out the inside of mine and recoat it, if there is such a thing?
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted March 5, 2018 Author Member Contributer Share Posted March 5, 2018 So far nothing. considered it as I had the tank off/emply anyway. But peeking inside all looks well. I did treat the out/underside (earlier post here). The lower parts at the back are more at risk as moisture may collect there and develop a pin hole (that will grow...). I ride a lot and prior to winter drain and fill with ethanol free petrol Famous last words. Fingers crossed.....
jeremyr62
The tank I had repaired I also had lined as it seemed like a good time to have it done and the guy that did the repair had done loads. It is a hard thin white coating that seems to he holding up OK. My other two tanks I am not going to line. One is rust free, the other will have to be de-rusted using the chelating rust removers now available (like Metals Rescue, Evaporust). When/if they start leaking, I will line them. There is no reason a tank should rust if it is stored full and the bike gets used so any water gets pulled through. Those dry fuel additives just bulk out the water so it can be combusted
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted March 9, 2018 Author Member Contributer Share Posted March 9, 2018 Removing the bar weights proved to be a biatch, no matter what I (alone) tried... Rode to my local mc dealer for help. 2 pair of hands, clamp and pheumatic hammer later... So now I get to paint them as intended. And......
