Member Contributer redmarque Posted August 20, 2007 Member Contributer Share Posted August 20, 2007 I’ve had some faults on my 98 for a while . 1. The LCD screen had stopped working completely 2. Whenever the main lights are on the indicator idiot lights flash the wrong way round and dial lights flashed alternately. My local Honda dealer informed me that I needed a new instrument panel – which cost around $300 or £150 on EBay! Ouch! Rather than shell out I thought I should at least try to resolve the issues myself. Firstly I removed the top fairing and clocks surround. Three nuts hold the clocks to the fairing sub-frame. Then removed the 2 screws that hold the air temp sensor. Un-plugged both grey and blue connectors. With the clocks safely in the warm and dry. Removed all the bulbs. Cleaned the circuit membrane with washing-up liquid and dried carefully. The copper tracks on the plastic membrane are susceptible to corrosion especially the 3 which run across the bottom, as they are in a slight lip on the casing. Using a multi-meter I traced from each blue/grey socket point following the tracks to each light /component. When continuity was broken between 2 points I carefully removed the clear covering on the track and soldered a jumper wire between both sides. As you can see in my case 3 tracks where broken. Replaced all bulbs, plugged the instrument panel grey/blue connectors back on to check before re-assembly. Hey presto! :goofy: Both faults cured! Hope this helps anyone faced with a similar issue.
