Member Contributer ShipFixer Posted April 1, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted April 1, 2022 Is it brand new, or a take off? No clock at all sounds like something else is going on (6th gen is always on). But... If not new, there are contacts in the rotary switch at the bottom that I had to clean in my 2002. Easy to disassemble, clean up, and put back together. Other thing is contacts in the kill switch. I had discontinuity and random cut outs from dirty contacts in both of those switches. Other question would be is this a non-US bike with HISS security stuff. Will say HISS on the plastic ring around it. Someone with HISS might be able to say how that works. Would start verifying continuity through the starter circuit and work out from there, personally. And wait for the true electrical experts on this board to weigh in on what it might be, they helped me a lot!
Brian777
It's a take off, got the whole set off eBay, not sure if it's European or US, I'll look. Thanks for the reply

Member Contributer Grum Posted April 1, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted April 1, 2022 Hi Brian. Question - On a 5th gen with ignition to off does the clock normally continue to show the time? If so and you're not seeing the clock display, check your Main Fuse A 30amp in the Starter Relay. Clock display power does not rely on the Ignition Switch. A blown Main Fuse A 30amp would also explain your no power situation.
Brian777
I'm not sure if clock stays on or not, but she's dead as a doornail, I can't get any life at all.

If the 5gen is like the 6gen then the Clock time is displayed all the time Ignition On or Off. Check that Main Fuse!
squirrelman
as shipfixer suggested, remove the electrical bottom section to inspect and clean the contacts.
Member Contributer Grum Posted April 2, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted April 2, 2022 Ok, I've confirmed your Clock should also be displaying the time with Ignition OFF. That means your fault can't be the Ignition Switch, (unless you have two separate faults!) the switch has nothing to do with the clock display power. You need to confirm the Main Fuse as mentioned, and ensure you have 12v on both sides of Clock Fuse, Sub Fuse A 10amp in the fuse box.
Member Contributer bmart Posted April 4, 2022 Member Contributer Share Posted April 4, 2022 My '98 and '00. And some pics of when I replaced mine on the '98. Not sure if any of it helps you.
