A Final Accounting

Garden Of The Gods Pikes Peak So I am mostly done, since it seems that this paint job is a never ending time of fixing drips, scratches, redoing messups and well there are plenty of mess ups to fix yet. However the bike is back together and running after a bout with not starting and replacing parts. So I figure I put about 120 man hours into it this winter here is the final accounting Replaced fork oil Replaced fork seals Replaced wheels Powdercoated wheels

Miguel vs Orange Peel

Tank with graphics and white stripe So I put the color on today, sanded the color smooth, then applied graphics and shot the clear coat. 2 coats of clear is what the instuctions called for. I had a ton of color left over, so I put it back into the can. It not catalyzed so it should keep for touch ups and whatnot. Well whatnot for sure as in redo! I am going to redo the left fairing and the front fender. I was in the shed almost done with the clear coat when all of a sudden a huge gust

Making Progress

Ohlins reinstalled, powdercoated pieces installed worked overnight to reassemble the bike I spent most the night and last night istalling new bearing on the swingarm and beginning the reinstall of all the parts. I installed the swingarm last night and rebuilt Ohlins shock, put the subframe into position and put in the plastic undertray. I had to make some repairs to the undertray since it had alot of holes drilled in it over the years for various parts. I filled them all in and smoothed it

Seventh Gen

I was in a local dealer a couple of weeks back and they mentioned they would have a couple about now, so with an early release from work (due to Easter coming up) I accidently found myself riding past the dealers, not really sure how that happened. Parked there, got off the bike. Left my helmet on promising that it wasn't there I wouldn't stop. It was parked in the doorway. It looks a lot nicer in the flesh. That pipe doesn't seem to stand out as much, and it is a lot smaller than I thought. A

Just how much does top gear cost these days?

All dressed up and no bike to ride Yea you can say I went all crazy, as if Paris Hilton were to suddenly become a serious motorcycle sport tour rider! Scratch that I wont have no usless mexican rat dog yapping away with its head sticking out of the top box, I said serious sport tour rider! Yea I got my overtime sorted and worked some extra hours, and a generous tax refund resulted in some new gear for this year. I retired the old stich, sold it actually to a fellow rider I know from work, h

I am in deep now!

OMG I am in deep now everytime I take somthing off I find somthing else wrong I keep delving into this bike deeper and deeper and finding all sorts of problems, I know my rear brake has been dragging so I decided to get some new parts and rebuild it. It was a mess, the rubber seals were hard as rocks, and the bellows covering the slider pins were torn and the pins were covered in caked on brake dust not sliding at all. rear brake rebuild replaced the seals, pads, bleeders, cleaned

Wow I need motivation!~

Stator cover Repair - Cleaned up the etched in dirt with a power tool and a wire brush attachment I have started a laundry list of items that I need to fix on the bike! First of which was a paint job, but getting motivated to do it has not be a priority as of late. I guess I am more of a plan it type of guy. I have been putting off some pain in the arse repairs for years now. I snapped off an exhaust stud years ago and have not gotten around to fixing it. This year I am going to do it. I

Six Figures

Well a small event in the bikes history took place as I rode to work last week. As you can see from the picture I've hit the 6 figure mark. 100,000km. I can't say they've been trouble free, but its been pretty close to that. So here's some pictures of the event from my phone. one km to go There it is 100000km The location! Will it be around for another 100000, who knows.

Motorcycle Routes in Western Norway.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fd02gNmQiY MC-routes in western Norway. The Fiord district. I´ve had several requests on what parts of western Norway is worth travelling on a motorcycle. In this blog, I´ll point to some of the more interesting routes for motorcycling in western Norway. Of course there are lots of other routes worth riding, not mentioned here. The Videos The videos are from the website RoadMC.com, a virtual clubhouse for me and my biker-friends. Since the site is not m

Burning Up

No luck on the parking ticket. It gets whisked straight off to State Debt Recovery... ah well. I was in the wrong, so not really a lot to argue over. Just have to remember that for this area, bikes don't get any lenancy. Summer has struck, 40C the last two days with 42C today. Warmish on the way home. Already had two bush fires in the local area. Luckily not a lot of damage (unlike Victoria last summer) but its only December and there's at least 2 months of the fire season to come. Here's a pi

A Costly Haircut

Well a first for me - a parking ticket on the bike. I've parked in parts all over this city, including right in the city centre. Bikes will park in no-stopping, on footpaths all kinds of places. This time I parked inside a painted triangle (the spare bit at the end of a row of angle parking). I've parked in places like that all over and never had any trouble. Riders get into strife if they block driveways or other problems, but the dead space that cars can't use, no worries. The council in this

Warm enough for ya

A couple of hot ones here with more on the way, and summer is still officially two weeks away. 42C on the way home. Equal hottest I have ever ridden in. Luckily the dramas from last week seem to have gone away (see here) and made it home safe & sound. Been an interesting couple of days on the commute. Traffic blocked up on the way in with a truck parked at an angle across two lanes. Driver digging through his toolkit beside it. Hit the onramp to change freeways as normal, only to have to av

Catching Up....

I'll leave this photo here so people know what BR was referring to, but it's not in order here, being from my second move to Sydney. It's taken from my previous workplace and the view is basically the entire Sydney basin, from the mountains to the sea. On most days like in the photo you can actually see the city skyline, some 80kms away. On some other days all you can see is the top of the fog below you My first ride, the Kawasaki ZZR250. In 2 years I put 50,000km on it, before I traded up to

Starting out....

A big part of my life is motorbikes. When I first got my licence I hadn't actually planned to get a bike. I had gone for the learners test on a whim, booked only the day before. Once I had the licence I basically decided that I may as well use it. I quickly decided that I wanted a new bike with full fairings, my choices appeared limited to Kawasaki GPX250, ZZR250 and the Honda NSR150. There may have been others but a bit of research didn't really uncover any. I eliminated the NSR immediately: a

First Post

Okay, like others here I'll make this bike focused. I'm going to start with a bit of catching up, why a VFR, earlier rides etc. Then I'll add in others rides as I do them, but I'll try to put a little more than that. However don't expect much posting because these days with work and two little girls, going for "rides" doesn't get high on my list of things I have to do each weekend. It's pretty high on my want to do list, but the two lists are a lot more different from each other at the moment! I

What a season!

The old girl in front of Bent's Old Fort Seems I haven't made a blog entry in months, I just haven't done anything bloggable since riding with some guys from work. I take day rides still to places I have gone more times than I have digits on my hands and feet, so it seems redundant to blog about it. However recent changes in the website (this one vfrd) and its members have sent me into a mood of self examination, perhaps doubt, perhaps giddy anticipation, and always cautious about future outc

Chain Oiler Update

Last spring I wrote about installing three different chain oilers and that I planned to compare them. Here are my results so far. I have not had to lube a chain all summer. I have not had to clean a chain all summer. I have not had to adjust a chain all summer. Yet my chains all look clean and new. This is awesome and I am very happy about it. However, all three chain oilers drip on my garage floor. I have developed the habit of pushing a piece of cardboard under the chain, each time I

Aint Nothing But An Atmel Thing - Or - Riding With Guys From Work

Skyline Drive Ryan and Jason above Canon City I have been riding with a guy from work lately a young fellow who recently purchased a used CBR 600 - that was in need of some work. He was riding it with a race take off front tire and a decent Bridgestone rear. I dont often ride with guys who ride other bikes but Ryan seemed like he had the natural ability to ride well. Which after 3 rides he does. I took him along on my annual 500 mile ride to the Black Canyon a few months back and he did we

The Vfrd Summer Summit Ride

The Kansas Crew Lined up in front of Pikes Peak Crystal Creek Reservoir It was a year in the planning, planning done by committe of which I was only involved in as the official route guide. In that I really must thank Didit, Radar, and Volsfan for thier work in getting this thing put together - the lions share done by Didit of course. I knew when I stood up and asked the Candians at the Kootenay Hootenany if they would be willing to ride to Colorado for a national meet sombody would jump on i

2009 Colorado Summit Ride

The wait was over and I finally got a few days off to go ride. It started Tuesday night when we met a few riders for dinner who had just come in from Kansas. Poor guys got pounded by a storm and had to ride though rain, hail, and about an inch of hail on the highway! Thankfully it did not last long and they made it safe to Colorado. We planned to meet the next morning for the ride up Pikes Peak. I think it was Lee 2002 who was having a slight battery issue so they were about an hour late meeti

More Maintenance Work...trip Time!

In preparation for the Dallas to Dillon run, I needed to do some maintenance work big time. 28,900 miles on the clock, I bought the bike with 14,000 miles...so more than half are mine now. Only averaging 7K miles per year, but this trip should blow that away....3500 miles estimated total. In April I put a new back tire on (Bridgestone BT021). Less than 2K miles, I hated to remove it, but I did anyway. I installed new tires front and rear, replacing the Pirelli Diablo front. The front wasn'
