Does this look like it's missing any pieces underneath? I see the rubber stops, etc, and though my hand is covering the right side somewhat, it is the same as the left. The rear most part of the seat cowl doesn't sit staticly. I can press down and the plastic makes hard contact with its mount like it's missing a rubber piece of some kind so while I'm hitting bumps in the road, it's making minimal, but hard contact. Best I can tell, everything is there per parts breakdown diagram. I might need to craft a cushion of sorts.

I bought my 86 VFR700f about 20 years ago, I lived in Atlanta at the time, now I am living in TN, but happened to be in Atlanta over the weekend, so I swung by the shop my buddy owns and where I bought the bike from the PO, after talking to my buddy for a while, he says he has something for me, and grabs an 86 VFR Corbin seat, seems the PO dropped it off at his shop a while back and he held it for me. The bike came with the original seat and tail cover, but I bought a Corbin for it a few years after I got it, but this one is more of a solo seat design vs. the two up design I have on it now. Given the bike has over 90k miles on it, and all the spare parts i have for it, it is definitely worth more in parts, but it has too many smiles to give up.

It was a tough install, but with two strong men helping, the seat latched. -
Hey kids, Does anyone here have any experience with the Russel seats like the day-long? I am looking to get rid of my Corbin on my Tiger, because its hard as a rock and very uncomfortable for touring and long rides. My concern with the Russel is the 'wings' on the seat, while I can imagine its supportive, I ride pretty aggressively and hang off the saddle a lot. Is this an issue with the seat or am I just imagining things? -PRB

Has anyone ever needed to adjust the seat latch cable? I find mine has a lot of slack, to the point of barely clearing the latch when actuated, and I don't see an adjustment in the service manual diagrams. Thanks!

Windscreen, Seat, And A Tire Hugger. Opinions Please!
RedRicer posted a question in Modification Questions
Hey all, so my stock screen is scratched and foggy so it needs to be replaced, but i wanted to go with a shorter black screen anyway so it works out. So the question is Zero Gravity or Puig? Ill be going with the standard OEM size and shortening it so is one easier to cut/work with? or are both about comparable? Second: what seat do you guys like better? The Corbin or the Sargent? I have nothing to compare it to since Ive only ever had the OEM seat. Finally: where can I find a decent rear hugger for my 6th gen?? I feel like Ive scoured the entire internet and all the ones i see either get terrible reviews or look like garbage for an excessive price. do any members here make them for sale? i saw a red one on someones bike on here at one point that looked fantastic. Thanks in advance for the suggestions!- 11 replies

Hi All :) I'm a vfrdiscussion.com virgin, busy popping my own cherry (how does that work?). Um yeah, I've just arrived. My previous ride was a 2007 VFR 800 VTEC, and about 6 months ago I decided to upgrade to a VFR1200FA. I love it. Its a Marmite bike for sure, there aren't many in my area, but I love mine. I posted a little video of my recent exhaust change, with a pic of my custom seat, I hope you like it. Here ends my intro post. More amatuer videos and VFR eulogizing to come. ParadoxSquirrel

A nice day to check out the new seat. Suffice to say, I will not be able to remove and replace this seat by myself until it's really broken in. But it looks good and with the smuggler I won't have to keep anything under the seat anyway. -

And it's heated! -

Really a decent amount of room in the smuggler. -

The smuggler is a mixed blessing. I will love having a spot for my cookie, extra (hopefully heated) gloves, a visor for walking around, a comb, a knife, a can cozy, my charger, my nano...and being able to leave the purse or tank bag at home for day rides. But, I've lost my grab bars and extra seat space for bungeeing my gym bag behind me. Guess I'll be looking for a decent backpack for karate class. -

With temps in the 40s, it was a brisk ride to try out the new seat. -

First ride on the new seat was a marked improvement over the stock seat. -

I can't remember which exact post I learned this from, but I learned a neat way to ride with least discomfort. Riding 1600 kms, I felt no numbness in wrists or pain with shoulders. Here is what I remembered and applied to my riding style: - Sit as close to the tank as possible - Straighten the back and have the arms bent - Tucking the hips a bit back, expose your chest to the wind (let it give u a slight push to relieve pressure off the wrists) - Wiggle the elbows a bit to make sure there are not strains on them - Tighten the thighs around the gas tank to releive pressure off the crotch - Take a lot of breaks (atleast once every 100 clicks or 2 hours, whichever comes first) Now, I have all the original parts on my 5th gen, and this helped. I am looking forward to put some heli bars or something similar, and lower the foot pegs. But that is for my Trip across Europe into Asia ending in India in 2012. Love VFRD - Thanks :)
