  1. Hi guys, I need your help. I decided to change the dashboard to my VFR. I changed the color of the LED backlight, the appearance of the speedometer and the inverse color on the display. But I don't know how to put back the tachometer pointer(needle). I'm not sure how to do it, to show the right rpm... Anyone have any experience and advice?
  2. I know very little about electronic/electricity beyond what I was forced to learn while troubleshooting the blue connector issue on my VFR many moons ago. After wiring up the USB port last weekend, I decided to have some fun with LEDs. Taking a look at the Marc Parnes Visual Alert for the Escort Passport 8500 and finding a similar idea/writeup about making your own LED indicators on one of the other forums inspired me to try my hand at wiring up some LEDs for use on the VFR as an in-dash warning light system. Like most of these, the LEDs will be powered by the mono headphone jack on the radar detector. Since this is my first time playing with LEDs I had to get some basic supplies including a soldering iron (Sears, $8) and a couple bags of LEDs and resistors from eBay for $15 and then I started hacking. ... I used a 3V watch battery to test the LEDs before beginning soldering. And used some heavy plastic makeup applicators (donated by my wife) as the backing material to mount and solder two banks of four LEDs each. I wanted to have these lights mounted well within my peripheral vision and chose the two small black plastic inserts at the top of the windscreen as my mount point. I drilled four 5mm holes on each side and passed the LEDs through and mounted the plastic backing plate with glue. I may need to use a better adhesive -- we'll see how they hold up over time. Here's the finished product with camera flash and in the dark. My only real concern is how bright they are during the daylight but based on my eyeball testing it shouldn't be a problem. As with the mounting adhesive, time will tell! Paul

  4. Hi guys I am sourcing necessary bits need to finally install auxiliary LED lighting for the Hawk and VFR. Going for low profile fender mount for triangulation as well. The Hawk has F2 front end and the fender bolts on there are pretty standard and straight forward install. However, on the VFR the fender holes are slightly enlarged, and uses M5 bolt but it is a stepped bolt. So I am using spacers to space the light out from the fender with a longer M5 bolt but now need to find a source for a stepped washer of the correct dimensions. Do any of you know where I can get these, or would I need them to be custom made? If anyone can help, let me know. I will attach picture of the stepped VFR bolt, spacer for the light, and a diagram of the stepped washer with dimensions needed. Dimensions for stepped washer needed in mm: A - 9B - 6C - 15L - 4T - 3 Art
  5. Has anyone succeeded or looked into upgrading the LEDs that are mounted in the turn signals? They look almost unnoticeable to me so I wanted to make them brighter but upon dismantling the turn signal, they appear to be circuit board based LEDs not your average plug-in bulb LED. Is there a way to upgrade these or are we stuck with them as they are? (my electrickery skills are minimal so the solution would have to be relatively basic)
  6. Does anyone have any experience with swapping out the Honda headlight bulbs with LEDs?
  7. Got myself one of these from good old ebay. The idea was to turn the parking light in to a daytime running light, and maybe a more effective parking light for the same power draw. Not that i've ever needed the parking light... (required in the UK when parking on a road with a speed limit of 40mph or more, but i'd just park off the road). I also bought one of this type of LED to try. Couldn't really get it back in to the headlight without dislodging it from the housing, and i had concerns about the top mounted LED causing heat problems as it'd be less than 5mm from a plastic part directly above the bulb. Next up: Brake light LEDs.
  8. I made them based on a couple of needs. First is my shoulders getting in the way, a little more visibility, and a bit more adjustability. It took a couple of Sundays and I have a bit more to do before I add them to the bike. But they work, and I am off to the next project next week. I need to get them them anodized and make the rubber spacer, but what else do you say about mirrors?
  9. Hello all! I am starting the process of going ALL LED for my 6TH GEN Viffer for instant on light, better brightness and less hassle. I've read everything including this great headlight post here and am still having trouble with a firm understanding of the details to get started. BTW.. at the urging of this group I already have many Posi-locks and have Tightwads distribution block if I need some switched power. The order for my plan of action is to do: 1. Brake lights -I've already ordered these based on a post here (see post #30). I should point out that according to the vendor.. these are the brightest at a smaller size and an upgrade in brightness to what's in post #30. I'll also point out that these could possibly fit but are much larger however the very brightest! 2. Turn signals -I want to get switchbacks (white to amber) and have all four be running AND turn signals -I'm aware I'll have to get a flasher here (instead of loading up on resistors) 3. Headlights -Looking at h4's and h7s at LifetimeLED's -I just want them to run like they do now. I believe it's 2 lights on bottom for lows and all 4 lights for highs. If that's wrong please correct me. OK QUESTIONS.. 1A.) BRAKE LIGHTS - Anyone in the 6TH Gen group know how large of an LED tower bulb we can get away with? I measured the top brake bulb housing from the hole (right where the light connector gasket would seal) to the back plastic being careful not to let the allen wrench ride up or down and keeping it straight and got 2 3/4" (as accurate as I could get). I then measured the bottom of the bulb that clicks into the base (1/4"). So we have a total of 3" or 76.2mm. I know someone has got to have a more accurate measurement? I'm trying to go as big as possible without the bulb touching the housing for the sake of choices. 1B.) I imagine the lower bulb housing is the same size but I am assuming here. 2A.)I saw a post once upon a time that went through a simple plan to tap/connect some rear turn signals wires to existing wiring to get them to behave like the fronts. Can anyone explain or know where that post is? 2B.) Anything special I need to do to run led switchbacks in the front or rears than the direction I'm already heading? 3A.) Is it really as easy as following this video? 3B.) Am I selecting the correct LED headlights? 3C.) I've considered Tesla LED's but because of advancements in LED tech I'm thinking maybe some headlights will do it and can be aimed better All of your experience is highly appreciated! P.S. We really need to (if not done already) have an up to date BEST and latest led recommendation post along with retrofit guides per GEN. As powerful of a collection of info we have here regarding our beloved beasts it would seem we could do this AND... to hopefully aid in my contribution of giving back I may initiate this myself after going through the paces. BTW.. I am aware that not everyone will want to do this. Thanks all!
  10. As an alternative to simply replacing the standard rear bulbs with LEDs (which doesn't appear to work, at least not so far), has anyone fitted one of Thurns LED rear clusters and could give any feedback on their fitting & performance?
  11. Orange, used to further accentuate the glorious hellfire that is a 5th gen. I want to give the appearence of flames seeping through the gauges, burning their way out of the numbers, straight to your heart(fallout 3 anyone?) Seriously though, i want to hear about what model of wedge bulb LED you used, how bright was it and do you think that i should go even brighter to compensate for the green that is already there? Lets talk more about LEDs, why they are great, how do you attatch those little doo hickeys tha tregulate voltage so as to not cause the F1 indicator to stay on, and even good suppliers.

  13. ok posted on here 2 months ago with a poor neglected 96 vfr thought i would do some thing different with fairing as it came as a streetfighter. And having never done this type of project before didnt know what it would envolve, so now im in a position to give advice that i wish i would have taken or asked for its much harder than i thought and leads to many other modifications. The bike had few problems to start with and wiring was full of issues all i had was a speedo. I bought full set of Gsxr k1 race / fibreglass farings , K6 Headlight , Zx9r Clocks , L.e.d rear lights indicator .L.e.d Front indicators, + Relay to suit. Now its different which is kinda what i wanted
  14. Just added brake lights to my givi E360 topcase. I'm sure this has been done before, but I thought I'd link the LEDs I used in case anyone wants to do this. On a 4th gen, you just need to tap the Green/Yellow (hot) wire and the Green wire (ground) to the tail lights for the brake. For running lights and turn signals you could just cut the LED strips however long you want and wire them as needed. I pulled the clear red plastic off and the LED strips fit right in the center groove on the inside of the plastic piece. I ran the wires through a small hole in the bottom of the case to bullet connectors so I can remove the case. At $6 for the LEDs, a couple dollars for wire and bullet connectors, it's substantially cheaper than the kit sold online (over $100). LED's I used: http://www.amazon.co...2T1_ST1_3p_dp_1 Results:

    Accent Lighting

Thinking of doing this to my bike. Has anyone here done accent lighting on their bikes? I think this would be a great way to be seen at night! http://www.ebay.com/itm/iOS-Remote-WiFi-Control-Motorcycle-180-LED-Light-Harley-Honda-Suzuki-ATV-Boat-/261157848425?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3cce388569
