So, today I hand polished all of the painted plastics on my bike for the first time. Since it was pretty cold here, I kept the garage door closed and brought out my powerful halogen work light to help spot the swirls easier. When I got to the topbox, I noticed that the paint doesn't have the gold metal-flake as the rest of the bike and the Honda saddlebags (see pics). Has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering if my dealer ordered the wrong one, or maybe Honda uses the same one for different black models...It doesn't bother me at all, in fact it took me 2 years to really notice, just curious...

My wife and I just got home from Road RUNNER Magazine's 10th annual Touring Weekend in North Carolina. The host hotel for this event was the Village Inn, located in Clemmons, a suburb about 15 minutes from downtown Winston-Salem. For those of you not yet familiar with this great publication, here's a little about the magazine: http://www.roadrunner.travel/about-us/history/ We left home (Columbia, SC) on Thursday, and after an uneventful (although HOT) 3 hours of predominantly interstate slab, we arrived at the Village Inn. Road RUNNER had a registration/info desk set up in the lobby, and all of the staff members were very friendly. We had originally only registered for the Saturday activities, but since we were already there, we registered for Thursday night and Friday activities as well. That evening's activities included a social hour in the hotel bar, dinner, and a presentation about accident scene management by a first responder and fellow motorcyclist. The Road RUNNER staff really knows how to organize some group rides. During registration, we were asked what type of riding we wanted too do; sport, leisure, or cruiser. Being a noob and with my wife riding pillion, I chose the leisure. So, Friday morning, we lined up in our groups for the day's ride. Each group was no more than 12 bikes, but with a very eclectic mix. In our group, we had 2 Valkyries, a few Harleys, a Can-Am Spyder, a big Victory, an FJR and a Concourse. At first glance, I thought that I'd quickly get bored with the sedate pace these guys were sure to require. Boy was I ever wrong! My wife and I were near the front with the leader, a VERY experience staff member. I followed directly behind the couple on their beautiful white Victory, and that man could ride! He had that thing leaning so low in the twisties! At our first break, I commented on this and he blew me away when he said that it had a 33 degree lean angle! The ride took us throughout some of the rolling hills area around and on the Blue Ridge Parkway. At the end of our approximately 200 mile tour, I felt pretty good about keeping up with the much more experience riders. Then it was back to the hotel for drinks, dinner and a presentation by Uwe Krauss about his experiences traveling the world on his motorcycle. Saturday morning ended up being a much more interesting ride, in my opinion. Same group of great people, but a route with many more miles of twisties. That was, by far, the most aggressive riding I've done to this date. The guy on the Victory said that he had a hard time keeping up with me! (I know it doesn't sound like much, a cruiser-style bike having a hard time keeping up with a sportbike in the twisties, but this guy could really ride!) My chicken strips are much narrower after that 200 mile day! One of the most interesting aspect of the whole weekend was the bikes. There were well over 300 motorcycles there from all brands. Harleys, Goldwings, ST1300s, BMW adventure bikes, trikes...I even saw an MV Augusta Norge! I was very surprised that I had the only VFR, and I did gather quite a bit of attention. That's fine with me, because I love talking about my VFR with others! All said and done, we had a great weekend and my confidence level with the big Viffer is much higher. The Winston-Salem area has access to some great, well maintained roads with curves and elevation changes. The people we met really didn't care what brand of bike you rode; the fact that you rode was enough...I'm already looking forward to next year! Wife lined up getting ready to go ! On Friday, I sold my 6th gen. We just didn't get along unfortunately. There was a lot to like about that bike, but in the department that meant the most there was just nothing there. Yesterday, I brought home my new girl! Yeah, I know you guys know what they look like. You know what they sound, feel, etc... so I won't go on about what you already know. All I can say is that everything I have heard about the fit & finish of this bike is completely true. Now I will readily admit that we are still in the honeymoon phase and want to say that this is the greatest bike that has ever ridden the earth. I'll have to wait a few thousand miles before I pass that kind of judgement. But I do have one honest question... All the negative reviews and opinions that I have read on the net and in magazine; did they ride the same bike I just bought? Granted, I figuratively stole this bike from the dealership... but it is an incredible bike! I would like to thank the guys that replied to my other thread where I was asking about the 7th gen, it really did help sway my away from a few other bikes and stick with the VFR line.

While changing my tires today, I noticed something in my right rear cowl that caught my eye and sent a cold chill down my spine...a dreaded stress crack! As a Gen 4 owner, and dealing with this for 20 years, this was a sobering moment. Below are some pictures of the crack. It's looks like it may be due to a bit of pressure from the EGCA cable and rear brake reservoir hose, that both route through there. Still kicking around some ideas to stop it propagating. Any other Gen 7 owners notice something similar...or other cracks elsewhere?

Hi yall, im that guy who has never bought tires for a bike and Im asking for recommendations as to what everybody has got. I have a 2010 7th gen with stock tires. Bikes got just under 6K on the stock set. Looking kind of worn and was thinking of getting new ones. I carry a bit of luggage(see pic) on the back and need something to accommodate that. I don't go bananas on the bike so I am definitely looking for touring over sport tires. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks all for the advice

Is anyone running a combo set on their 12? Thinking maybe Pilot Power front and PR2 rear? My tire mileage is dropping, dropping, dropping. OEMs went about 3800 (includes trackday), first set of PR2s about 6000 (all touring), second set of PR2s about 4500, and my current front PR2 is at the wear bars at 3000. Unreal. The crazy thing is the fronts are wearing about twice as fast as the rear on the last 2 sets. Yes it's a heavy bike and yes I ride, um, rapidly (with almost zero straight roads or commuting), but this is getting out of hand. As I plan to ride this through the winter and then send it to the scrapheap, I'm wondering if anyone is using two different tires. Figure it never hurts to ask first, if not, I'll just take the plunge and see what happens. Gracias.

Got out for a little birthday ride today at dusk ... a beautiful night with 65F/18C temps. I had to watch for deer, there are lots of 'em in my area. Stopped at this old cider mill for a pic.© ©2013 AnnieR

I can't find any reference to a fuel filter in the service manual. Anybody know if it has one? I know the current gen Wings don't have a fuel filter and I'm guessing Honda decided these bikes don't get one either. Makes no sense to me.... Hopefully I'm wrong and it's hiding in there somewhere.
