  1. The CBR shocks I've had DMr modify for my old VFs have a new "port" installed at the top just for that reason.
  2. Not a bad plan. At least you'll know and it won't be expensive to experiment a bit. And like I said, a little ride height might liven the bike up a bit too.
  3. I wouldn't expect it to be any better than a VFR shock, even with half the miles. Why would it? It's pretty much the exact same shock, that wasn't that impressive when new. Better than something from the 80s? Of course, but that isn't saying much. The only thing you'll gain is maybe 5mm in length for some additional ride height. An actual improvement doesn't have to break the bank (but it can I know). Perhaps look at YSS. I have them on 5 bikes now and they are a great shock and value, which I need when I am upgrading so many bikes.
  4. 4th Gen and CBR600F3 discs is what I work with and they seem to be somewhat fragile too. I think they are just vulnerable from life, like maintenance and getting bumped. I'm just glad they are easy to "fix" but that is also why they are easy to "bend" I suppose. The lighter but still strong enough ratio can be hard to balance.
  5. If you even just look at this style of rotors wrong, they will be out. I true them quite often. I buy cheap, low mileage OEM rotors for projects and inevitably have to "adjust" them when they arrive. But you can pretty easily get them within a fraction of the quite large factory service limit. I had a pair of BADLY bent rotors off of a crashed 97 VFR wheel that I wanted to use on a bike I was selling. Took me a while, marking and adjusting, measuring and repeating, but I got them well within limits and you couldn't feel a thing at the lever.
  6. With a couple o-rings, you can convert from vacuum and not have this happen again. Usually the inner portion of the diaphragm fails leaving you with the outer edge to use as the "o-ring". But yours looks pretty toast.
  7. I'm almost thinking making the seat smaller to match where you clearanced the cowl at the front. Ending where the lower triangular portion of the tank starts. I'm liking it in the direction you're going too, don't get me wrong. But I think the seat will tuck in better without extending the where the crease ends.
  8. I agree that the preload needs to be reevaluated, but fork oil level can certainly make a big difference to the fork feel if it is too high. There can be not enough air volume to compress before it feels locked.
  9. No, of course that's the way. Not sure what my point was now. ; - ) I guess you need to reduce your oil level now with the new stiffer springs.
  10. Did you verify your new oil level after installing the new springs? They could have taken up more volume and raised the oil level, reducing the air space.
  11. I do love that dark red combo. Classy on that bike. Nice.
  12. Maybe something like this? https://www.mooseracing.com/products/547552/productGroup/382213
  13. Jesus. They look like shit. Stored in a warehouse, that's a capsule orbiting the sun.
  14. Judging by the sidewalls closer to the tread, they look like they were already OLD before you got them.
  15. Also confirms you have terrible taste in bikes.
  16. Should I marry her? No. Not a chance. Are you fucking crazy? We're engaged!!! Just bustin' your balls. Enjoy the journey again, looks pretty fucking nice.
  17. At this point, do what you want. But I think the opinions you came for have been pretty well expressed.
  18. They can wonder what's up and it can be explained. My well cared for 1998 is red, I have a good amount upgrades and don't want to start over. Im tired of red. Here's a sweet low mile 2000 that is now red. Here's all the pics when I had the bodywork off. You like red? Cool, let's talk. Not hard.
  19. Chinese bodywork is not part of the best of any world. He has a chance to buy the color he wants, swap over OEM bodywork onto the better (imo) year, and sell the now red one. And be WAY ahead money wise. Might even make money.
  20. Ok.... there ya go. Fuck, I'd swap the body work ALL DAY LONG. And any other doo-dad that is nicer. Cheapest OEM paint job EVER.
  21. Why don't you tell us why you want to make the move? Maybe there's an emotional aspect, or a perceived advantage, I'm not seeing.
  22. Don't get me wrong. the 00-01 works great and is a lovely bike. But given a choice, even with more miles (which is nearly irrelevant on a VFR), I'd take the 98-99 every damn time. Less shit to go wrong and it just adds weight and complexity. And yours looks excellent. I see ZERO reason to "upgrade".
  23. Well my name is probably a clue. Just more bullshit on the same bike and nothing "improves" it. Give me Fuel Injection, that's fine. But I'll stick with just a analog high idle lever thank you. Keep your stupid "wax unit", I've been on the end of a "choke" lever my whole adult life. I think I can handle it. Sure the exhaust is just mild steel. That's fine, I don't ride in salt water, and I'll get it coated. But you can keep your catalytic converter (and associated hardware, software), even if it is made out of stainless. Besides the stupid Linked Brakes (yes, yes... I know the system works great, I've ridden plenty), the 98-99 is as close to a pure "modern" (re: FI) gear driven cam VFR you can get. Linked brakes, with secondary masters, proportioning valves and 2 miles of hose, belong on a fucking Gold Wing,
  24. I would rather have an excellent 98-99 with 30k than a 00-01 with 3K.
