  1. Unfortunately it isn't unheard of in Europe. No one has tied down what causes the failure, Generally, it only affects pre 2012 model years. A big end has failed on the crankshaft and has rotated around. The crankshaft cannot be reground. Honda don't sell oversize shells. Its a worry for other VFR1200F users.
  2. Front tyre pressure is critical, yours was too low. Road 6's do indeeed turn in quicker in my experience.
  3. Sounds to me like the pads are getting glazed. This judder from around 15mph to stop is a symptom of either pad glazing or warped discs. Try dressing the pads down on 200 grit wet and dry on a flat surface unti they look matt again. Also clean the discs with scotchbrite (nylon pad) to remove any pad transfer. If this cures it for a while, you need to find out why the pads are glazing up. Could possibly be sticking pistons or just the fact you like heavy braking ?
  4. Just been through something similar, one of my panniers came off the bike as I set off, it mustn't have been on properly. It was written off as it caught the rear wheel as it dropped off and it has melted through the lower back of the box. Found that later Crossrunner boxes are identical, apart from the lock barrel, but the entire handle/lock mechanism simply swaps over. Managed to get a VFR800 Crossrunner pannier and after a respray, normal service is resumed. Also later VFR800F panniers are a direct fit.
  5. Great write up so far Yokel, keep it up.
  6. Regulator/Rectifier units can fail and go either high or low voltage, often after a few miles as they heat up. If it is failing high voltage, it will be blowing both headlight and tail light bulbs if you ride with the lights on. The best way of protecting yourself is to fit a battery status monitor, either a multi coloured LED type which changes colour with voltage, or a LED voltmeter. Oh, might be obvious, but dont touch the glass of the bulb with your bare fingers when you are fitting it.
  7. Theres a red plug under the seat with a dummy cover over it. This is the diagnostic connector. You can bridge two pins, it puts the bike into diagnostic mode when you turn it on. Its crude, but shows you by flashing lights in the dash what the error codes are. You can also clear stored codes using this plug. Its up to you whether you do it youself, or sweet talk the dealer into resetting it. After saying that, it does sound a bit odd and it possibly might be a real fault ? I ran mine on the centre stand, and that makes the abs light flash after subsequent starting, I cleared that using the diagnostic link. Search for SCS connector on that auction site if you want to buy one.
  8. Ive seen it before in the UK, The Disc is warped as you said. Proabably got that way with sticking pistons in the past. Also rarely, the master cylinder return hole inside the reservoir under the small deflector plate, can be bad from new, causing the brakes to drag badly. The bike is so poweful its difficult to feel a dragging brake when on the move.
  9. The standard radiator for the manual bike is fine for the engine. I think you have answered your own question. 20% of your radiator is damaged and air cannot cool it. There will be a problem next summer. I have ridden mine in 38 Degree heat, and it did not overheat. The fairing does deflect the worst of the heat away from your boots. I've ridden many Bikes far worse than this one in hot countries.
  10. No, but I've replaced the Clutch cover after a drop on my 1200F, and used the recommended RTV as specified by Honda in the workshop manual. It doesnt leak. Make sure you use a long reach socket on the retaining bolts. A standard socket will mark the paintwork, some of the bolts are in a tight place
  11. There is no gasket on this cover, Just RTV. Remove it and reseal it with RTV, especially around the crank postion sensor where it leaves the case. Job Done.
  12. There is a heat shield on 1200f RHS pannier.. Whether it will be an issue I don't know.
  13. Hi Guys, Is there any identifying marks on the good version (post recall) of the shaft drive ? I've been gifted a spare shaft drive, but if I cannot verify its a post recall I'll have to dispose of it.
  14. Yes, I've found this on wet clutch bikes. Get the oil level right ! Dealers seem to overfill ..
