  1. Basically, yes. I had a R/R die on me many moons ago on my '98 model, ended up that as the turn indicator flashed on/off, the engine died/relit in tune with it so just wondering if there's an electrical issue based around the known weakness of the R/R on the earlier VFR. @Grum is the electrical guru so hopefully he will be along shortly - note the time difference as he lives down under!
  2. Oxford do a good set of heated grips but I can't comment on the electrical connection side of things. OEM replacements are very expensive.
  3. The only choices, AFAIK, are the download or you buy the Honda manual.
  4. Have you completed a battery voltage test?
  5. So these are the ones we should be using? Not oem Honda.
  6. Sounds like a fun trip.
  7. Vtec transition is much better than the previous model, at least it has been on my 2 Crossrunners (same engine). Quick shift is excellent and recommended. Luggage? If you use it. Hugger, fender extender, new end can. Depends on your tastes & requirements.
  8. Probably.
  9. Wasnt suggesting it was a bad thing, just interested. We all love these bikes yet remove and replace so many things that I sometimes wonder what is left of that thing that we wanted so much in the first place. I've done the same, though nowhere near such a professional job, on my 01, and I'm still waiting for the headers and a new end can. You may not understand the reference but it sometimes seems a little bit like Trigger's broom.
  10. Best way I guess is to sort a test ride. I've never ridden a 3rd Gen so I cannot answer the question but more modern suspension & brakes, LED lights etc would be better on the 8th I'd guess.
  11. That didn't come up in my search, thanks.
  12. Don't think it's available over here.
  13. In the past, I've done it one at a time, leaving the others in place. No idea if that is the 'proper' way.
  14. Good call. Just ordered 5 (4 + spare) genuine Honda exhaust port gaskets from David Silver Spares. I'll hold off the link pipe gasket and studs. With an sub-9000 mile engine that's in really good nick, I can't see any deterioration on the studs so I'm going to soak them in WD-40 (is there anything better?) closer to the time when I take the fairings off - got some riding to do on her when the weather improves.
  15. Just checked out your posts on the forum you linked to for your previous VFR800 projects. It's a shame the pictures have been dropped - do you have any you could post on here? You clearly have the skillset to do this and I'm sure we'd all like to see how you get on with one of the best engines, fitting it into something I know not what of. Can't help with selling parts in the US either, sorry.
  16. They've all said it, unbelievably skilled and determined work. Thank you for sharing. Just a random thought; how much of the original bike is still there? %? edit: and a 2nd thought....HOW FAST? We're talking 0-60 and 0-100 I guess, plus standing 1/4. Can you get the power down without spinning the rear? Can't imagine 200+hp in a bike so small, that's as many horses as there are in my baby Merc. I was lucky enough years ago to have a quick ride on a blown 5th Gen in a car park at Silverstone. Wheelying on the throttle at 120 in 3rd was impressive......and not a little scary! 😆
  17. Have you checked/changed the spark plugs? Do they have a spark when you press the starter button? How old is the fuel in the tank/fuel lines? Have you checked/cleaned the fuel filter? Keep your battery on charge whilst you investigate - you don't want to do all this work to find your battery flattens too quickly. That's all I can think of at 0630.
  18. Everywhere! Thanks for the update Duc, best wishes for the future.
  19. I never fail to marvel at the skills demonstrated on this forum.
  20. I like that idea. What parts do we think are rare and worth stocking up on?
  21. Grum is absolutely correct, the bike in the video above is 5th Gen so despite yours being registered in 2002, it is not the model we usually associate with 2002, that being the 6th Gen or Vtec model. I'm guessing yours was registered late as it was one of the last of that model sold in South Africa.
  22. Mine said around 25k miles, but it depends on how you ride etc. If in doubt, get it serviced, best money you can spend on a bike imo.
  23. Really difficult with most current mirror designs to combine good rear view with narrow frontal aspect. I use mirror extenders on 2 of my VFRs, the Crossrunner doesn't need them, but then I don't do London filtering. Have you considered rear cameras? That's the only way I can think of to solve your issue.
  24. Thank you so much m8, really appreciate all the work you and Duc are putting into this.
