Helweg
My wife just gave me a brand new leather suit "IXS" pants and jacket ( black white red ) - lucky me ... I've always ridden goretex - this is my first leather suit. What should I do before riding with it, I mean water protection etc.? how do you remove "murdered" insetcs and bugs on yours ? and what if it gets wet how do you manage that ? Tips and tricks are appreciated cheers
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted May 21, 2016 Member Contributer Share Posted May 21, 2016 She can come round and give you some help, but if not: For water protection, get a rainsuit the suit should sit a bit "tight" at the beginning, so you can wear it around the house for starters. If there is a spot that bugs you, shove a pair of socks under it and keep the suit on for a while. After a while is will fit perfectly Bugs etc I use a bit of soapy water (saddle soap bar which I bought equestrian shop) and a sponge/souring pad very lightly. But if the bugs have soaked a little they should come off easy. Never use beeswax or so as it clogs the pores. I occasionally apply "Rapide" leather dressing from the same shop But IXS will sell their own stuff as well.. If you get soaked, use towel to remove the excess, hang out to dry NOT in fromt of heater or fire place. You can point a large fan at it. Some bugs like to hang on for dear life, even in death.... :-)

I use a leather cream too (that contains bees wax) that helps with waterproofing the leather. It will keep the suit dry in light rain. http://www.rapide-bv.nl/shop/ Nice gift btw, IXS makes high quality motorcycle gear.
