ljmellor
My beloved 1999 yellow veefer has been in the garage over the winter, since getting it out I've noticed that it is backfiring rather loudly when I hit the brakes or use engine braking when going down-hill.Could this be a clogged injector? I was thinking of running a bit of redex or something through it, I've never used the stuff before but then I've never owned a bike with fuel injection before either.Any advice? Member Contributer MorganSteele Posted April 9, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted April 9, 2015 I faced a similar issue. I would drain the old gas, add RedEx (per instructions as I used Techron), add new gas and ride. I would try to get a tank through in short order, and see where you're at. YMMV, but you may also need a throttle body synch. In the future, add some Stabil if the bike is going to sit for a bit.

Helweg
I had the same issue a few years ago - it was exhaust gaskets ( copper ring ) at one of the rear cylinder I was able to smell it and even se it when it was cold and smohing
ljmellor
No mods that I'm aware of, I bought it a year ago. I'll take a look at the gaskets. I always run it on 97/98ron super unleaded, does this make any difference?
Member Contributer BusyLittleShop Posted April 11, 2015 Member Contributer Share Posted April 11, 2015 Technically speaking backfiring on deceleration is generally theresult of a lean condition in the fuel system... What occurs in a leanmixture is it fails to ignite consistently... The result is unburntfuel migrates into the exhaust pipes... As next engine cycle doesfire... those unburnt gasses are ignited down wind in the exhaustpipes... pop you hear the sound of backfire. You could eliminate the possibility of a intake or exhaust leak. Checktorque all the intake clamps and exhaust bolts...
