Backfiring On Deceleration

My beloved 1999 yellow veefer has been in the garage over the winter, since getting it out I've noticed that it is backfiring rather loudly when I hit the brakes or use engine braking when going down-hill.

Could this be a clogged injector? I was thinking of running a bit of redex or something through it, I've never used the stuff before but then I've never owned a bike with fuel injection before either.

Any advice?

I faced a similar issue. I would drain the old gas, add RedEx (per instructions as I used Techron), add new gas and ride. I would try to get a tank through in short order, and see where you're at. YMMV, but you may also need a throttle body synch. In the future, add some Stabil if the bike is going to sit for a bit.

I had the same issue a few years ago - it was exhaust gaskets ( copper ring ) at one of the rear cylinder

I was able to smell it and even se it when it was cold and smohing

Technically speaking backfiring on deceleration is generally the
result of a lean condition in the fuel system... What occurs in a lean
mixture is it fails to ignite consistently... The result is unburnt
fuel migrates into the exhaust pipes... As next engine cycle does
fire... those unburnt gasses are ignited down wind in the exhaust
pipes... pop you hear the sound of backfire.

You could eliminate the possibility of a intake or exhaust leak. Check
torque all the intake clamps and exhaust bolts...
