Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 18, 2014 Member Contributer Share Posted September 18, 2014 I would like to swap the bolts on top of the clutch springs I assume that the basket is aluminium and no idea what the oem bolts are made off so what material should the bolt be? aluminum? Maybe too weak for the application? Stainless steel? maybe corrosion with the aluminum? does not matter?
SEBSPEED
I would not use aluminum. I might use stainless, although the uncoated stainless would react with the aluminum over time. Probably over a long time given the oil bath... The oem bolts are mild steel, zinc coated.
Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 18, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 18, 2014 Cheers! SS Bolts ordered (INOX A4 Torx), will post up the "new look" clear clutch cover as soon as I have the parts in my grubby little hands.... V4 Rosso
Plain SS and not some coloured bolts (white & blue to stay with the theme )? e.g. Gilex in Amsterdam sells Ti and high grade aluminium Poggipolini bolts in various colours. Member Contributer Dutchy Posted September 20, 2014 Author Member Contributer Share Posted September 20, 2014 Next question.... If one fits stronger clutch springs (like +10%), do you still torque the bolts to the spec as per the manual?
Veefer800Canuck
if you overtighten the bolts, you risk damaging the clutch basket. I put in an aftermarket clutch and springs, torqued to spec, zero problems. http://www.vfrdiscussion.com/forum/index.php/topic/68154-clutch-and-grab/
V4 Rosso
If one fits stronger clutch springs (like +10%), do you still torque the bolts to the spec as per the manual?Yes, as in this configuration the torque value has no relation to the spring tension.
