"Cruise control" options

awacs

Question

  • Member Contributer

OK, I know it's not really cruise control. But I'm managing periodic inflammation in my right forearm. I commute 35 miles almost every day, in CA bay area traffic. When I leave early, there are open stretches of highway. It is hilly in places. Other times of day, it's a lane splitting mess.

I'd like some type of throttle lock that's easy to deploy, but can be overridden in the split second it takes for a Volvo to change lanes. After reading previous threads, I am not sure what to look for.

What are the options? I know about Throttlemeister and Vista Cruise. Are there others?

Which would be the best choice for my needs, in your opinion? Mine is a 5th gen.

Thanks guys - Aram

I have the Throttlemeister units on my 5th gen and I must say I would not use them in a lane splitting commuting environment. While easy to override for the most part it is just not convienent when frequent changes in throttle position or speeds are needed. I only engage mine when the right hand needs a break on the long straight stretches.

Vista Cruise, NEP, Throttlemeister, CATL*, Go Cruise**, and probably more, but that's off the top of my head.

+1 on Throttlemeister. But I don't ever use it in heavy traffic. When you live out here, you have a lot of open highway to cover.

Throttle rocker is good in tight confInes of traffic.

Not a cruise control, but a palm rest so you don't have to grip the throttle tightly.

I have the original model and you can adjust it on the fly by turning it around the other direction, opposite to the throttle tube rotation. The Velcro one you cannot. Depending on your average road speed, the rocker needs to be adjusted further up for higher speed as you need more rotation of the throttle for 70 mph than say 40 mph.

+1 on the NEP throttle lock. I never quite "got" the motion used for throttlemeisters.

The NEP is easy as flipping a switch. I use mine multiple times each and every ride.

I use my throttlemeisters every day. Love them. (except when I inadvertantly locked my throttle WFO on Rt 28 at TMac)

I've got to remember that one. "Officer, I swear it was this @#%$% Throttlemeister! Call Timmy if you don't believe me!!!"

These are really nice: http://pacekeeper.dk/ The guy making them is a 5th gen owner. They are somewhat expensive, around 200USD + shipping. There is a matching piece for the clutch side included.

Let me know if you need something translated.
