Looks like a nice unit.

Looks like a widescreen version of the 220, but with an updated operating system. Lifetime map updates is nice. Wonder if it tracks fuel mileage lime my nuvi 1450 does...

Might be a nice replaced to my old zumo 450.

I don't know if this one does but my Zumo 220 does...the lifetime updates are a nice thing though.

They deleted the MP3 option..... than the smartphone has to fill in this gap.

I'm not sure if you can connect your smartphone too it. Read the 660 info, it's very clear on this fiction. The 350 says nothing of that. So now you need a BT headset that can support mutli connections.

But still to drop the MP3 player is strange. And the fact that it's listed price is $699 where the 660 is $649. I'm starting to think this unit isn't as good as it first looked. It's almost starting to look as of Garmin dropped the ball on this one.

Sry, my reply was not complete. I connect my smartphone via the Scala G4 BT headset.

The 350 is even higher and thicker compared to the 660.

In The Netherlands the 660 is available for €595 incl. LMU

Where as Garmin stated the advise price for the 350 on €499.

I have a Zumo 550 I bought a couple of years ago. I was hoping Garmin would really step it up on the next Zumo. But I guess not. Yeah, it's got lifetime map updates (worth about $60-70) and it's about time they got lane assist, but dropping mp3's, using the same ld design maps and putting all together in an ugly package, and pricing it ridiculously high, it looks like a total pass. If you look at any of the better GPS apps for smartphones, you'll see how good an inexpensive GPS can be. If my iPhone were waterproof and worked with gloves, I'd use it instead of my 550. Oh and if it took custom routes. I love my 550, but have yet to see a reason to upgrade to any of the newer Garmins.

I do not see anything compelling yet ..........compared to my 550. I will investigate its track capabilities to see how it stacks up for dual sport use.

These features would be handy:

  • See and select businesses on the map – no need to page through menus
  • Preview what you’ll find at upcoming highway exits (Exit Services)

But on tour I just leave the Gas Icon up at all times anyway which gives a one button look at whats up ahead.

A GPS specialist in Holland, known for his gps instruction video's, posted a review on youtube about the 350, in Dutch language unfortunatly.

Second video shows his point of view on the against and pro's of the 340/350 versus the 660.

Hereby a translated list of his findinggs:

350v660.jpg

The "track" import seems to be a known feature for hiking and cyclist but not widely used by motorcylist.

In the 3rd vid he shows how to make the 340/350 visible in mapsource. Apperantly the unit only works with basecamp without this trick.

- press volume button

- press and hold top right corner till new screen shows (diagnostics page)

- select arrow down to MTP settings

- select mass storage (mass storgae single session is for one time options)

- select save

Price comparison in Euro's:

Link to the video's, part 1 gives a closeup view on the 350

And yes it is in Dutch, sry

Thanks............info is popping up on the Zumo Forums too!

Tracks are a big thing with the Adventure Bike crowd. The Zumo 550/66X units do record tracks with the best of any GPS units and they load tracks to convert to routes. However they have a mixed record of showing older tracks. THe 660/665 series do a better job of importing 3rd party/older tracks for display only than the first generation 550 machine. Especially off road, tracks are a nice feature but are not as important/relevant for the more typical street user.

I always download my old tracks for use in planning the "next" tour.

I believe Mapsource is done as far as Garmin is concerned...no more upates. One of these days I will have to jump in the Basecamp pool to test the water.

Here some of the off-road crowd use the 276/278 with a modified memory card that has a 2GB capacity (largest Garmin memory card is only 512MB).

The video shows a trick so you will still be able to use Mapsource with this GPS.

As much as I love Garmin...

700 US dollars...

OUCH!

They should really get their heads out of their arses and lower the price to be competitive with all the mobile devices out there.

I know that Zumo does more and better on a bike, but they are asking to lay out 700 clams when all the essentials of a GPS can be had for free or close to it assuming that one already owns a smart phone.

I've been reading the Zumo forum about this unit and it seems it doesn't bluetooth connect to your cell phone anymore like the 550 and 660 models did. So if you want your voice prompts and music you're goin to have to upgrade your helmet comms to a Cardio G4 for better type system. It also sounds like this new model will not talk to Map Source, which means you'll have to move to Garmin's BaseCamp software. Something thing I see as a step backwards in Garmin's software.

There is also talk about a model up from this one coming at some point. What extra it will have is unknown but Gamrin makes an XM Radio/weather for all their higher end units so most likely that would be added to this model as well.

They say Zumo's are built for riders by riders. I'd like to find these riders and ask them what they are smoking.

Yea the 27X series are a fav of the off road crowd here too The New Garmin Montana seems to be getting solid reviews and is well adapted to off road/track use.

Too bad every mount for the Zumos is different!!!! I am sticking with the 550 on the VFR but may investigate a separate GPS for the KLR.......maybe.

I have tried Basecamp but still use Mapsource mostly because I forced myself to. Eventually of course I will use BaseCamp toooooo.
