How to wire up R1 rectifier?

Everyone says to use these but no one has posted a detailed install on these. Just some far away pics. What exactly do I need to do to wire one of these to my '01 VFR? I saw a pic where a guy used the stock power wires put together then crimped to the R/R and I've read just to ground the negative and put the positive straight to the positive battery post with a fuse in between.

If I go with the direct battery wiring method, what do I do with the stock male harness connector? Do I wire the two positives together and the two negative wires together and just leave the black "monitor" wires alone?

You can check out Eastern Beaver.com for pre made wiring and connectors. Certainly a viable option to wire the - to a suitable frame ground and the + to the battery through a 30a fuse.

The monitor wire applies only to the stock R/R, so it's not necessary.

No need to do anything with the stock connectors if you bypass them. Maybe tape them up and find a spot out if the way to stash 'em.

I've done two Honda's in this manner, no problems to date.

Depending on which unit you have there is a write up here http://vtr1000f.wickidnet.com/

Here is a description for the model I installed on my 4th gen VFR http://www.triumphrat.net/speed-triple-forum/104504-charging-system-diagnostics-rectifier-regulator-upgrade.html

Hope this helps with your install for 5th gen?

The monitor wire you don't need of course. You can easily wire the R1 R/R to the battery directly...leaving the OEM harness hanging. the bigger problem is the stator...the 2000-2001 stator connector uses larger terminals, so you have to cut it off. It also can end up too short, so you need to extend the wires. No too hard to do.

Keeping the wires on the connections is the reason for the connectors...the terminals can vibrate away and eventually fall off, which in the case of the Stator could be disastrous.

Hmmm...Wonder how I missed this thread...... Anyhoo the roadstercycle guy list just going direct to the battery....

Click the ------ EZ mosfet hookup link on the webpage.

I think I am going the direct route. Less bandaids......

- Things that make you go hmmmmm --- I wonder how the stock R/R would go if wired direct? :comp13:
