mick
Anybody have one of those SPOT locators? I've read several articles that it works best if it has an unobstructed "view" of the sky. If you have one, were do you mount it? Trying to get some ideas. If you're unfamiliar with it, here's the website: http://www.findmespot.com/en/ NOTE: for some reason their site is acting flaky on my work computer today. Hopefully it's my computer and not their site.
SEBSPEED
Chev and I rode with a guy on a beemer in Georgia earlier this year - he one of those locators and had it stored in his trunk box, and it was working.
Member Contributer vfrcapn Posted June 15, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted June 15, 2009 Here's a guy on STN that has it mounted to his Kawi. Not sure on the cradle he's using though? Seems pretty cool, especially being able to upload real time data that can be tracked on the web. http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index....ic,40349.0.html
Member Contributer vanion2 Posted June 15, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted June 15, 2009 Nifty idea. How much longer do you think it will be before GPS systems are sold with this integrated? Embrace your technolust.
Member Contributer YoshiHNS Posted June 15, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted June 15, 2009 keep it on you if you can. Otherwise, not really sure. You could try and use these nifty twist ties. I bought them for a buck a piece at a marcs/general store. use them to hold my ez-pass, phone, camera, pretty much anything. Never had a problem with them not holding. vfr99
Doesn't answer your question, but I wear a camelbak and keep it in the pocket.
Member Contributer vfrcapn Posted June 16, 2009 Member Contributer Share Posted June 16, 2009 Did a quick search and Ram Mount is offering a number of options. http://www.ram-mount.com/SearchResults/tab...84/Default.aspx Side note: Saw a news report of a guy doing a 2 or 3 day solo hike through the wilderness around Tahoe, CA. Of course he loses his compass and gets lost, not making his rendezvous. Massive manhunt ensues, he's found a couple miles from his destination. This thing would have reduced that to a ranger in an SUV driving out to pick him up, or him not getting lost in the first place. Seems like a no brainer to carry one of these if you're going off the beaten path.
