Handlebar Customisation

LordM

Question

Hi Guys - I've had 2 or 3 750 vfr bikes in past 28 years - my last 10 years ago I had to stop as I couldn't maintain a comfortable riding position (getting old,!!)

Now I would like to get another (800)

Has anyone any knowledge of how to customise and fit high bars to a vfr - I realise brake lines and possibly power lines will need extending / replacing but How to fit bars - drill top yoke and fit new bars or does  a top yoke from other models fit??

Any realistic advice or first hand knowledge would be very useful.

Thanks to all the brains I know must be out there.

DM

LSL also makes risers that clamp to the top of the fork and provides a mount for a raised one piece handlebar... I think they called it a "superbike" bar.  I have it on mine and it greatly improved my riding position.  I scoot forward and lean in when riding enthusiastically in the twisties to put more weight on the front tire because the riding position is so upright.

as bmart linked, Police version handlebar kits are available from Hurricane for 1998-2001 VFR800s, and some years for ABS and non-abs sixth gens.  It is the most upright of the prefabricated handlebar solutions out there for the VFR.  The kits for the sixth gens seem pretty selective for the years, so I would contact Webike's customer service for clarification.  I've fitted a few of the 1998-2001 kits though, and it is a standard upright riding position.

Here's a video of a Hurricane kit on a sixth gen

the video creator has a blog you can run through google translate with more info on the kits:

I installed Convertibars on my RZ350 and would highly recommend them in terms of adjustability, durability and design. I will be buying some for my VFR at some point. I notice their main website is down at the moment, not sure how long that will be the case, but here's the store link;
