In My Garage:

  1. I previously owned a 2007 VFR and I am thinking about possibly picking up a new leftover 2014 VFR800. Today I visited my (somewhat) local Honda dealer so that I could see an 8th-gen in person. The dealer had the bikes packed in like sardines, so it made it difficult to look at and sit on bikes. Also, I am only interested in the red model and they only had white. This is my brief opinion of the 8th-gen VFR given the above conditions. -Fit and finish on the bike seem very good -Sitting on the bike, the seat felt kind of thin (I don't remember if the 6th-gen felt that way) -The reach to the handle bars does feel farther than I remember (I would probably opt for risers) -I left feeling neutral about the bike. I didn't feel like "wow this is awesome". It was a nice bike though. -Would I buy one? If I could find a good deal, maybe. I still browse the used 6th-gen classifieds. Does anyone live near the bay area in California that owns an 8th-gen that I could take a look at?

  4. Hi guys, so i have just finished up my front end swap on my 3rd gen, but the fairings are still bare naked fiberglass, and as this would be the third time that this bike has needed a color change i was hoping some of you guys can give me some ideas & point me in the right direction. 1st color scheme 2nd color scheme how she looks at the moment so while I was busy with my build, i was scratching my head on what i should do with the color scheme for the bike when she was on the road again, & I still have not come up with any good ideas. the one suggestion i kept getting was to spray the whole bike black, & polish the rims up completely, but i found this pic & I am not sure if i like it. I have got a set of nice red Honda decals that I intend on using when I spray the bike. . Please share you ideas & thoughts.
  5. Gents, my OEM luggage is just sitting off the bike since I purchased it about 6 weeks ago. 2002 bike, not sure what year the luggage is, RED, with mounting hardware. I'm gonna list it in the classifieds, but I really have no clue what to ask. One case is an 8/10 and looks great, the other has a few surface blemishes and some light damage commensurate with age of bike. It's worth noting the bike had under 9000 miles on when I bought it, and I took the cases off immediately. I have a bunch of pics I'll post in the classifieds of course, but I know these things were out of bounds expensive when new. What's the going rate these days... Here's just a few basic pics. I just gave them a Optimum No Rinse wash, fresh clay bar treatment, Optimum Opti Clean, then Sonax Perfect finish AIO. Got much of the surface issues taken care of, but one box needs more polishing and it does have some light damage, as I mentioned. Anyway, looking for thoughts on real pricing, I'm not trying to rip anyone off, but would like fair market value of course. Thanks in advance...

  7. Hi All, VFR models are not offered by Honda dealers here in Dubai. I have bought a 2010 VFR1200 from the US, and expecting its arrival within a month. Since I am new to motorcycles, my question might not be valid, but it is a way of learning... Which centerstands (from Honda or other) will fit into VFR1200? Thanks.

  10. Okay yes, I realize that changing gearing does not change the engines output. But, here is your chance to save the VFR from the chopping block. I LOVE the triple in my Tiger 1050 because it has torque. I don't play in the gear box nearly as much, it feels smoother, and I can pull out of the corners with less effort. Yes, it has 20 something pound feet more torque. However, I am curious if changing gearing on the Viffer will allow me to better use the power available, maybe to mimic what I like in the Tiger. My concern with this approach is to get the effect I want I may be running 6K RPM+ on anything above 60 or so MPH, which, while I'm sure the engine can take, I would rather not abuse the bike. What works for you guys? Thanks, as always, for the advice! PRB

  21. A 1350 mile motorcycle adventure from Phoenix to Telluride round trip. A much needed escape from work, stress and city traffic. A chance to ride the famed "Million Dollar Highway" No camera gear, no set ups. Just a long ride in the mountains with a few buddies. After much internal debate on whether to mount Go Pro's on the bike and myself at the last moment I opted not to. Escaping from work as I was saying, ment from Hollywood as a commercial camerman the last 15 years. The last thing I wanted to think about was filming. I just wanted to go for a long ride. This was my first long trip on the VFR that I had just bought from my brother in law Matt. (He's the one riding the silver Concourse in the vid.) Once we hit the open road I regretted that decision and found myself yet again armed with only my iPhone. Luckily, I threw in an Ollo Clip wide angle just in case we stopped long enough for a picture at the occasional landmark. Not sure how the footage would turn out I began shooting as we crossed the Monument Valley in Utah. Keeping the phone in my tank bag I set the pro camera app and clipped on the wide angle. When the road and speed limits permitted I would reach in and grab the phone left handed while keeping a modest death grip on the throttle with the right hand. Surprisingly the footage turned out much smoother than imagined. This was all an experiment with the iPhone 4s while aboard my VFR. So, with no real direction other than trying to capture the fall beauty of the magnificent aspen lined roads of the Rocky Mountains what you see is our weekend get away. Enjoy! Daryl
